Product Description

Owners of companion parrots value these appealing birds in much the same way that a dog lover values his pet pooch. But companion parrots have a unique quality unmatched by any dog: They can talk to their human companions! This revised and updated book advises on all important topics related to keeping a companion parrot, including:

  • Choosing between a young parrot an and older bird
  • Selecting and training a talking parrot
  • Modifying the bird's behavior and reinforcing social behavior habits
  • Protecting the parrot from household hazards
  • Coping with occasional problems, such as screaming or feather chewing

Author Mattie Sue Athan concludes by recounting several amusing anecdotes about companion parrots and their various owners. Includes color photos and line art.
  • Ingram

Offering a wealth of advice on such topics as choosing between a young parrot and an older parrot, a parrot expert discusses ways of coping with occasional problems owners can have with their pet. --This text refers to an alternate Paperback edition.

This book is wonderful for a first time parrot buyer. Suggest that you buy this book before buying a parrot as a guide to choosing the right type of parrot. The book is also filled with information that can be used after the purchase of the parrot. The largest part of the book is centered on different types of parrots and their personalities, behaviors ect. An excellent reference! Enjoyed leaning from it!

    5.0 out of 5 stars Informative, Mar 20 2002
    By
It is a great resource for people who havn't bought a parrot yet but want to and current parrot owners. The book has a lot of information to offer to parrot owners and people who are considering on buying a parrot. I feel that if parrot owners took the time to read this book they would benefit greatly from it and that their parrots will become happy ones, if not happier.
