Working from their collective encyclopedic knowledge of rock, Carlos Santana and Clive Davis devised a list of guitar-centric titles- and then invited a Who’s Who of guest vocalists to perform on every track. Singers range from Chris Cornell (on Led Zeppelin’s “Whole Lotta Love”), Pat Monahan (on Van Halen’s “Dance the Night Away”), Chester Bennington and Ray Manzarek (on the Doors’ “Riders on the Storm”), Rob Thomas (on Cream’s “Sunshine Of Your Love), Scott Weiland (on the Rolling Stones’ “Can’t You Hear Me Knockin”), Chris Daughtry (on Def Leppard’s “Photograph”), Gavin Rossdale (on T. Rex’s “Bang A Gong”) to rapper Nas (on AC/DC’s ‘Back in Black”), veteran Joe Crocker (on Jimi Hendrix’s “Little Wing”) and more.

Great Set of Covers,
By
This review is from: Guitar Heaven: The Greatest Guitar Classics Of All Time (Audio CD)
You will have to like cover versions of songs you are already familiar with in order to like this CD. Santana does a great job of blending his playing style with the original arrangements of the songs. For the most part the singers chosen work well for the songs they are given. Hopefully though, this CD will complete Santana's journey of guest singers for every song. I wouldn't mind seeing Carlos team up with one great vocalist for an entire CD, perhaps Christina Aguilera. It could even be an instrumental CD with the singer using her voice as an instrument, ala Pink Floyd. One note, the deluxe version is not worth the extra money, as the DVD is nothing more than one long commercial for the CD!

Not a work of genius ....,

But a very fun album, very listenable, full of great playing from Carlos, and great performances from guests.Artistically, though, after Supernatural and the 2 other subsequent copycat albums, I can't see where else he can go after this one. Hopefully he'll return to the business of "Santana the band", and ideally be inspired enough to create 1 or 2 more solid "Santana the band" albums, which he hasn't really done since the late 70's.

Amazing,
This review is from: Guitar Heaven: The Greatest Guitar Classics Of All Time (Audio CD)
If you're a fan of classic rock you'll love this. It's hard hitting, loud and in your face music. Santana's guitar work is amazing, and the latin sound to a lot of the tracks adds a little extra punch. Classic songs and classic Santana!
