DISCLAIMER: This review may only apply to lovers of classical guitar, which is a damn shame because this is a fantastic record. ANYHOW: to people who DO love classical guitar, do yourselves a favor and purchase everything you can find on this label, as they are all the same caliber: Excellent.
This is simply one in a series of sublimely-idiotically good guitar repertoire recordings that you will listen to all the time. There was a time not that long ago when the choices for finding well recorded classical guitar were limited to Segovia, Parkening, Williams, etc. Not that this was a bad thing, but the classical record labels back then must have been concerned about mass appeal, such as it is with classical guitar music, because they almost NEVER released anything more up to date or challenging (consider "Sonata" by Ginastera of which I could only find one recorded version of). Fortunately, we live in modern times, and the kind souls at Naxos see it fit to issue as much guitar as these people want to play. In this case, a grip of Scarlatti, and some Sanz inspired, well, Sanz.
If you've played classical guitar you most likely know a lot of these. If you haven't this is your lucky day. You can just sit back and listen to other people breaking their fingers and straining forearms and wrists trying to get this music to sound as good as it does. Except these people are all professionals, such as Mr. Martinez. His interpretations are flawless. This entire CD is a case study in excellence. I could "review" each song, but really, I'm smarter than that. By which I mean it would be high hubris for me to even attempt to criticize this recording in any way. Buy it. Learn it. Love it.
