This was a fun and entertaining Western type story about sisters Angel and Sarah and their adventures in trying to save their nephew from his blood and money thirsty father. The two young women take off into the wild west to hide their nephew, and each have a separate adventure and find love along the way.
If I had any complaint, it would be about the amount of character perspectives in the novel. This is my second Bobbi Smith novel and now I know for certain this is her style and not just a singular type of writing. Bobbi Smith likes to write from the perspective of EVERY character and I have to say, I don't really love that. It's not helpful, it's more distracting.
Only 1/3 of the book matches the description on the back of the novel - namely being about Angel and Blade. For example, the book is called "The Gunfighter" (who is Blade) but he only pulls his gun once (and unwillingly) in the novel and he's only in the story for a few chapters. Unless you count the gun training chapters. The old title probably suited it better, "Beneath Passion's Skies," aptly named because both sister's take an adventure in the wilderness and fall in love there.
The other part of the novel is about Angel's sister, Sarah, and her love interest, a gambler named Steve. It's like there are two romance novels in one book, side by side. And even more than that, it follows the perspective of LOTS of people. She also switches between character perspectives rapidly and without warning within paragraphs and back again, which can be confusing if you're not following carefully.
Even though that particular style is not for me, I still gave it four stars because I enjoyed the story idea so much! It was just more like reading several short novels instead of one good beefy one with two really developed characters. But it is good and it's well-written besides. Bobbi Smith has great ideas and she has fun with her characters. I enjoyed the story and recommend it!

This book was originally released in 1993 under the title Beneath Passion's Skies. It certainly has stood the test of time well.
Angel Windsor knows the man her sister is marrying is evil. Her sister marries him anyway and is ultimately killed by his hand. Angel refuses to let him get his hand on her nephews money so she snatches the boy away. Angel and her sister decide to take him to California.
Along the way, each sister meets a man. Angel meets Blade Masters, a part Inidan gunfighter. Her sister Sarah meets Steve who is a gambler. Both face trials and tribulations as they try to escape from the men who are hunting them down.
Great story. Fast read. I am trying to find out if Bobbi Smith wrote a story about Lucky, the young child that Angel saves.
