New ideas about the nature of God and Christianity that will give Dawkins' best friends and worst enemies alike some stimulating food for thought

Tackling Hawking, Dawkins, Dennett, Hitchens, and a newcomer in the field—the French philosopher Michel Onfray—John Lennox points out some of the most glaring fallacies in the New Atheist approach in this insightful book. Since the twin towers crashed to the ground on September 11, there has been no end to attacks on religion. Claims abound that religion is dangerous, that it kills, and that it poisons everything. And if religion is the problem with the world, say the New Atheists, the answer is simple—get rid of it. Of course, things aren’t quite so straightforward. Arguing that the New Athiests' irrational and unscientific methodology leaves them guilty of the very obstinate foolishness they criticize in dogmatic religious folks, this erudite and wide-ranging guide to religion in the modern age packs some debilitating punches and scores big for religious rationalism.

Review

"Recent books touting atheism have been grounded more on dyspepsia than on dispassionate reason. In this book John considers the best, most recent science from physics and biology, and demonstrates that the picture looks far different from what we've been told."  —Michael Behe, author, Darwin's Black Box, on God's Undertaker

"A brilliantly argued re-evaluation of the relation of science and religion, casting welcome new light on today's major debates. A must-read for all reflecting on the greatest questions of life."  —Alister McGrath, author, Glimpsing the Face of God on God's Undertaker

I first met John Lennox through his two debates with Dawkins; he was OK but not brilliant. Then I got his book God's Undertaker which was excellent, in that book he deals with the science issues in the current debate with the New Atheists. Then he published a short but stinging critique of Stephen Hawking's book (The Grand Design), who has now thrown his hat in with the New Atheists.

In this book Lennox also deals with the arguments of the New Atheists. It is based on his lectures/debates in the past few years. This book will be hated by the New Atheists and loved by Theists. The New Atheists have very loud mouths; but very poor arguments. Lennox continues to dissect their arguments in this book. Chapter headings are:

1. Are God and faith enemies of reason and science?
2. Is religion poisonous?
3. Is Atheism poisonous?
4. Can we be good without God?
5. Is the God of the bible a despot?
6. Is the atonement morally repellent?
7. Are miracles pure fantasy?
8. Did Jesus rise from the dead?
9. Final reflections.

The book is also endorsed by Alvin Plantinga, a leading Christian philosopher.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lennox makes the case very well! Dec 7 2012

Modern materialist philosophers try to sell their world view as rational and scientific. Lennox systematically exposes the errors in their logic and shows how materialism as a philosophy has no explanatory power left.
Christianity, on the other hand, excels in explaining the reality that we experience.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book ... Dec 28 2012
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Compared to other writers on this subject, Lennox managed with excellence to tackle the irrationality of new atheism, through scientifically and rationally analyzing the need of a creator to understand the origin of this life. And he shows how believing in God is not a blind faith but depends on solid facts from
1-History ( like the ressurection, accuracy of Biblical events,...)
2- Science : which reflects that this life is rational and purpose driven.
3 Logic: the universe was not found by irrational mind through unguided life processes
4-Moral side: if evolution is the only true theory for the origin of life, then only the fit will survive and so what moral code can we live by if the storng may vanish the weak and the disable? If death is the end of everything, then what about justice in life?

New atheism tend to relate world problems with religions and gods. But Lennox shows in this book that real problems we are facing nowadays are because of denial of a creator existance. You really need to read and discuss what is written about that in this book.

I strongly recommend this book for real and deep analysis of each chapter if you are seriously looking for answers about his life,

Enjoy it.
