5.0 out of 5 stars A Treat For SLASH Fans, May 17 2009

This review is from: Guns N' Roses - Use Your Illusion II (Live in Tokyo 1992) Pt.2 (DVD)
This is the second part of a concert filmed at the Tokyo Dome during Guns N' Roses Use Your Illusion Tour in 1992. It's a great concert and the boys are in top form although I'm still struggling with the odd choice of venue's to film, the Japanese crowd is just too subdued. However Axl, Slash, Duff, Gilby, and Matt give it their all and if you're a fan then this is not to be missed.

I actually prefer part 2 over UYI-1. Axl's voice is warmed up, although he does lose it by the end. Slash is highlighted on a number of occasions, at one point jumping off the stage and shredding out Paradise City while being chased by security. It's freakin hilarious.

There's A really long drum solo which if you like drum solos I suppose is wicked and Axl is of course amazing. Strutting up and down the stage, all the while screaming with his amazing voice. I did however grow tired of his many, many costume changes (sometimes 2 per song). There is a brief backstage look at the band, Axl raps part of Rocket Queen and then we get some cool reggae beat going. I would have to give this DVD to Slash though; he gives a couple of brief interviews and is spotlighted in several solos. The camera work here is excellent, tight close ups of his hands, hitting all the cords. And the intro to a very cool version of the Godfather theme is not to be missed.

The quality of the video good and the song selection superb as we get the favourites plus a couple of lesser known's. The 10 songs included are; You could be mine, Drum & guitar solos, Theme from The Godfather, Sweet child O' mine, So fine, Rocket Queen, Move to the city, Knockin' on heaven's door, Estranged and Paradise city.

Combined with Use Your Illusion 1 this is a can't be beat concert line up that any fan will enjoy. After watching this I found myself thinking with amazement and regret that there will never be another band like Guns N' Roses... Sigh.

4.0 out of 5 stars The only GNR video/s a GNR fan will ever need, Dec 21 2002
By
I have to agree with both my fellow countrymen from NZ and say, first and foremost this is an excellent video as a part of a two vhs set, and while it may be expensive ( i know i paid around 120 for both) it is well worth it.
The video kicks off with a little backstage footage before axl appears onstage to kick things off with "You could be mine". I must be honest though, I thought axl really was off form, particuarly in the early songs. He wasnt hitting the high notes and his voice was far rougher than usual, in my opinion he butchered sweet child o' mine but yeah my opinion is EXACTLY that, an opinion. He did show plenty of energy however, which is the mark of a great frontman. The rest of the band were great though. Slash in particular absolutely shredded everyone else on stage with his solos, many of which were improvised versions of the album cuts, which was nice... although i was dissapointed he did an improvisation on the big paradise city solo.
As has already been mentioned, may of the songs contain little intros or interludes, for example: In the middle of rocket queen axl starts rapping "It tastes good dont it". I certainly didnt appreciate that, many rock affectionados won't either, but it was certainly unexpected.
The Quality of the VHS itself, both visually and in the sound department was unprecedented for a vhs. It was crisp and clean (it was recorded officially by GNR of course) sound was excellent also, only a little behind DVD quality playback.
Overall this is an essential set to own, as as this VHS in particular, which contains most of, in my opinion, the gunners best stuff.
Buy it... hell buy them both.
