5.0 out of 5 stars Near-Perfect Subdued Lo-fi Indie Ambient Shoegaze, Jan 23 2012
By Michael R. Ames - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Gylling Street (Audio CD)
I completely disagree with the other review here, and that's what made me realize I had to give my own view. Though I have recently picked up the LP following this one, "Soft Wounds", which I DO like and expect will eventually win me over, it is this album, "Gyllyng Street" that I will be coming back to. It's subdued vocal - musical delivery is a lo-fi combination of indie pop, shoegaze, and ambient textures, that blend seamlessly into a near-perfect, cohesive, listening experience. I feel you would be missing out if you passed it up based on the negative review. It wasn't recorded on a state-of-the-art system, but much like another great album I've come to enjoy, "Swing From The Branches" by Foxes In Fiction, sometimes the lo-fi quality almost adds something a higher level of recording equipment may have taken away. And I think what it is is the intimate, personal, and spontaneous recordings. They hold a little magic in them where it might've been lost and felt forced if held onto long enough to record elsewhere and in a situation with too many cooks-in-the-kitchen. One of the vocal albums I like to listen to when the night is winding down towards my usual ambient late-night listenings.

2.0 out of 5 stars Decent Music ***RECORDING HORRIBLE***, Oct 8 2009
By Rob Lew "Porc Fan" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Gylling Street (Audio CD)
The first I heard from this band was "West Coast Profiling", while listening to [...]. It sounded interesting and I thought the rest of the album would be similar. I guess it was (however slightly less appealing than when I first heard it), but after listening to it on my high quality system I was very disappointed with the horrible sound quality. Turns out that it was recorded on a 4-track tape player, then recorded onto a cd. I wouldn't recommend it for anyone who cares about sound quality. Another mistake of a purchase. Either way, you live and you learn...
