I got this computer for my 92 year old mother to replace her so sloooow windows computer.
She uses it for email and on line banking.
It boots up in seconds and does not require the constant updates that the windows based systems require.

I am surprised with the speed and how light weight the operating system is.

You are basically getting a computer that only has one thing, Chrome browser. Don't buy if you plan to do or install other things on the computer.

This laptop is great to bring around on trips or the coffee shop.

Would recommend this chromebook for people that only use web browser.

I was looking for an inexpensive laptop for my daughter to surf the web, when I came across the “Chromebook” - and so far I’ve been really impressed by the Chromebook, and my daughter absolutely delighted.

A word of warning, this is a rather long and non-techie review for people who don’t know much about these devices. My aim is to educate you about the Chromebook range rather than the specifics of one machine. I aim to tell you what they are, and what they’re good for.

So make yourself a cup of coffee, sit down, and read on.

What is it? Is it a laptop?
-----------------------------
That may sound a daft question, but it’s actually quite sensible, because this looks like a laptop, but works like no other. Most laptops run Windows or Apple software, this runs “Chrome” designed and built by Google. It’s different to a typical operating system in that it actually runs “one the web” inside the Chrome Browser. This has several advantages (and a few potential issues), but for someone looking to do online shopping or look up Wikipedia for the homework - this is a brilliant solution - but I’m getting ahead of myself.

So in short - yes, it’s a laptop, but not like any other laptop you’ll have used.

What can you use it for?
---------------------------
Well just about anything! Here’s a short list:-

* Anything you can do in a browser!
* Shopping on Amazon for a start
* Reading and replying to mails or setting Calendar events
* Edit and publish photos to the web
* Updating your Facebook or Twitter status
* Even read or write Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint documents (for FREE) using the web based version.

This is the 2nd HP Chrome book that I have purchased from Amazon. Both came quickly and as always were perfectly packaged. These HP chrome books are a great choice for anyone that just wants to surf the web, email, watch you tube videos. I was surprised at how smoothly the HD video from you tube can play on this thing. I even tried out a 1080P movie that I had on a flash drive and it played perfectly.

Build quality is not up to my macbook pro, but at 1/4 of the price you would not expect it to be. So if you are a novice, who is going to the library right now to use the computer go out and get one of these you will not be sorry you did.

The thing to remember that this only runs the web, nothing else. The apps that you can get are just web links. Starts up almost instantly, no waiting 10 or 15 min every time you start up or turn off to wait for updates as on windows computers.

It is very good for what it is intended - being on the internet. I do find the cursor is a little too sensitive - if I just pass it over something it will open it up without me having clicked on it. I haven't taken the time to get into the aps very much. but I'm sure that will be helpful for broadening its use.

We ordered a few of these for our Sales reps who use Google Apps, Salesforce, and lots more, and they are working great. Had to add a few Google extensions to tweek things, but they are a great inexpensive alternative to Windows Laptops. Great job Google and HP.

Excellent computer for what it is (glorified chrome browser). Perfect for my mobile office, as I knew what I was getting into with the OS I wasn't at all disappointed. Only slight I have against it is the keyboard could be wider (seems like it could be the same one in the 11") and the enter/shift keys are split in half to make front and back slash keys. Has taken awhile to get used to and not put slashes in place of capitalized letters. Battery life, screen quality and ports are all great.
