A nicely made film but not much of a storyline on which to base a movie. Probably works best as a short story. Al

5.0 out of 5 stars are you moved by love?, Jun 16 2009
By
This review is from: Hairdresser s Husband, The (DVD)
I will be brief. I saw this when it was first released, in Toronto when I was studying film theory and critisicm at York University. I have never been particularily moved by love stories, and though I'm not certain why this is (it would take too long for me to explore this point in this format), "The Hairdresser's Husband" is quite simply the most beautiful love story I have ever seen. By the film's end I was in tears (much to my own amazement). The film's narrative, its execution, direction and acting are all superb. I did not notice a single false note. Bravo Mssr. Leconte, I can love again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Touching and emotional film, Mar 19 2004
By
C. T. Lee (NY, USA) - See all my reviews

Like a previous person, I make a point of watching any film directed by Patrice Leconte. I also think "The Hairdresser's Husband" is perhaps both his finest and his most obscure work.

This touching film stars veteran French actor Jean Rochefort as Antoine--the hairdresser's husband, and Anna Galiena is Mathilde, the hairdresser ... enough said!

The film portrays life at its finest as well as its most sad times. I found the film a little slow at some points but neccessary to enforce the fact that sometimes life is just peaceful and inactive and at times - rash and quick.
