The Hairy Maclary books are an instant hit with children of all ages (including us older ones!). The use of rhyming and other charming word play is exceptional. These make wonderful gifts for little people.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hairy Maclary is the New Zealand version of Dr.Suesse Mar 31 2009
By Marie Arnold "ReRe" - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
Hairy Maclary has been a favorite book of my 9 grandchildren. The antics of this carefree mutt makes you smile while you read any or all of the 6 Lynley Dodd stories. The pictures are great and the repitition of Hairy and his friends' names make for good practice for the young reader. Eg: Blitzer Maloney, all skinny and bony. Muffin McLay like a bundle of hay. Bottomley Potts, covered in spots. Hercules Morse, as big as a horse. the book is a delight, for old readers and for young ones.

I love this book! I found it originally when I was traveling in New Zealand years ago. Now it is one of my 3 and 6 year olds' favorite books. We make funny sounds for each dog, adding to the fun. My kids are also fond of cats, so they especially like these stories. It is fun book to read and the pictures are fun too!
