Amazingly, it took a British Label to finally release this album on CD. This was the first album under their new name of the Five Man Electrical Band (formerly the Staccatos), and it shows well the versatility of the band. With 3 lead singers, and gorgeous 4-part harmonies, they created a sound similar to the Hollies or Beach Boys that was part pop, part rock, with a touch of country and psychedelia thrown in. Includes the Canadian hit singles 'Maple Lane', 'Didn't Know the Time', and 'Half-Past Midnight', which had won Record of the Year in Canada in 1967.
The bonus songs added to the disc includes former Staccatos singles and B-sides never before available on album let alone CD, including the glorious 'Let's Run Away', the Record of the Year of 1966 in Canada. The shimmering 12-string guitar intro and 5 voices still send shivers down my spine.
Buy it, and see that the Guess Who were not the only Canadian band making memorable music in the mid 1960s.
