I don't understand why this would be released in a Blu-ray format when the video quality is barely at a DVD level. It's very grainy and at almost a VHS quality. The sound it good, and the concert is decent. I was disappointed that Insurrection concert is only audio with a slide show, and not the actual concert video. All in all, if you're going to get this, save a few bucks and don't bother buying in the Blu-ray format as you get absolutely no extra quality.

This is the best vocal performance Rob Halford, as great as he is, has ever given! A knock-out! Only complaint-why only half of the concert? The other half of the double 2001 CD is missing. Anyway, the rest is SO good, hats off!

I have the DVD version, and I don't know if it's the quality of the video cameras down in Rio, but I was expecting a better picture. That being said, sound is great and Halford is always amazing live. Just wished the quality of the video was better,... can't see the blu ray being that much better,...

HALFORD POWER Oct. 22 2008
By cd-heaven - Published on Amazon.com
Format: DVD
Wow, wow, wow! Watching this dvd just puzzles me why Rob went back to Priest, I guess more or less for the paycheck...but oh well, this release is just pure magic. First off the Resurrection cd is included in this set, freshly remastered and newly expanded with 2 tracks from the Resurrection sessions (Sad Wings and Hells Last Survivor), both of them previously appeared on the Japan release and later as (uh-hum) live versions on Insurrection. They make a nice addition finally on the US side. There are 2 brand spanking new tracks Fetish and God Bringer of Death. While they are powerful and fast, and have that trademark Halford scream, they appear out of place on the cd, because again, they are newly recorded, so the mix and sound is different from the rest of the tracks. No bother though, they don't take away any of the majestic from Resurrection.
Now the DVD is a real treat. Halford and his band just slay for 14 songs, and 60 minutes, and you get it all. Halford classics, Fight classics, Priest gems (Jawbreaker and Stained Class) and classic (Breaking the what?...Let's break that Law! and Electric Eye). The DVD is incredible and while it was heavily bootlegged for years, this is the official, cleaned up (video and sound) version, worth every penny.
God Bless you Rob, you have done a superb job with releasing the Fight Collection (yes Into the Pit is a treasure chest!), and now the Halford years...can't wait next year for the Crucible collection. Thanks

Good live set...Great studio footage Dec 3 2009
By Wallet Boy - Published on Amazon.com

This is a great little DVD from the Halford band. It's basically a 90 minute feature that intersperses Halford's live set from Rock in Rio, with Resurrection studio footage and interviews with the band that look back at that time period.

The live footage from Rock in Rio III is very good. The Halford band is very tight, and can burn through their own songs as well as the Priest classics. I know we should all be happy that Rob can still belt out the classics, but I do wish he would move a little more on stage. I don't know if he's reading off of a teleprompter or just concentrating on the delivery, but he is fairly motionless on stage.

But the live show is only half of the DVD. What I especially enjoyed was watching Rob in the studio, delivering and editing lyrics during the Resurrection studio sessions. I always love watching how an album gets made, and watching him completely overhaul the lyrics to what would eventually become 'Drive' is very interesting. To me, the studio sessions are the best part of the DVD.

All in all, a good DVD. Also, for those interested, it's 4:3 aspect ratio and 5.1 Dolby Digital.

Excellent Version of Halford Rock In Rio! June 22 2012
By Concerned One - Published on Amazon.com
I already own the first two incarnations of this DVD. The first version had the autographed picture card and DVD of Rock In Rio plus Halford Resurrection remastered (Halford I) included, and was the only way to get that CD for a while. The second version was the Blu-Ray which had the concert plus the remastered Live Insurrection concert audio in 5.1 surround sound on it, the only way you can still get that show in that mixing ( but is now on standard cd). So why did I feel the need to get the third album? It was for the 14 track bonus CD that came with it. Now I can listen to this anywhere I am. This live performance is as good as I have ever seen by Priest or Halford solo. It has a great selection of Judas Priest, Halford, and Fight songs (no Two though). The mastering is great and really captures what his live performance was during this time period. I saw him right around the time this was recorded, and it was like I was back in the pit again. And for the current going price, it's a good deal for even just the live CD. I sort of wish this was the first version that came out, but likely I still would have purchased the three versions due to each of their qualities. A definite for metal fans!
