Gr. 3^-5. One of the better books in the Holiday Crafts series, this makes good use of familiar holiday symbols. Using a sort of party-in-a-book approach, Corwin leads off with a very brief overview of the holiday's origins, then contributes ideas for invitations, decorations, fun foods, and even a few simple costume projects. The only thing missing is a section on party games. Corwin doesn't explain how to enlarge the patterns she includes in the black-and-orange illustrations. She does, however, include some full-page ones and explains how to transfer them. The projects are cute and clever (the bloody monster hands made out of rubber gloves will have great appeal), and careful, good readers (there are no diagrams to visualize the construction process) should be able to accomplish most of the projects with a minimum of adult help. Corwin usually makes it clear when grown-ups are needed.
