Halo: The Fall of Reach: Covenant collects the four issue miniseries written by Brian Reed with art by Felix Ruiz. It is the second miniseries in the adaption of the Halo: Fall of Reach novel, the first being Bootcamp. Marvel's comic entries into the Halo lore haven't disappointed yet, Covenant delivers. Since I've already read the novel by Eric Nylund, so I know how it's going to turn out. Reed and Ruiz deliver an entertaining and quick read though. Ruiz's self-taught style is rough but good. He puts details into environment that sometimes make it spring off the page.
After the events from Bootcamp, the first miniseries, the Spartan candidates have survived their trial by fire. With their training complete and the malicous Covenant pressing deeper into UNSC territory, Dr. Hasley decides it's time for the Spartan-II program candidates to go active. We'll see Spartan-117, known as John, and his team don the MJOLNIR armor, take on the Covenant for the first time, and try to reclaim a planet besieged by the Covenant. There's a heavy amount of dialogue, which Ruiz draws great. The space battles are a real treat to see. The dialogue follows the book as does the plot.
Overall this is a buy for Halo fans. 3.4/5.
