Having never used an ice cream maker I was not sure what to expect. This one works very well. I find it makes enough ice cream for 3-4 people, but if you need more you have to wait 22 hours for the bowl to freeze again.

The ice cream is ready in about 30-40 minutes as long as you keep the bowl in the freezer.
It is small which makes storing it easy.
the unit comes apart in many pieces easily which makes it very easy to clean.

The unit is quite loud when running
The recipes it comes with are not the best, but you can find some great ones online.

I did a lot of research before purchasing this ice cream maker. I knew the price range, capacity and features I was interested in, and this Hamilton Beach was perfect.

Small enough that it doesn't take up a lot of room, yet it makes a good amount of smooth, creamy ice cream.

I've used it to make vegan ice cream, and it does a great job of it. I'm thoroughly happy with my choice.

Don't be discouraged! Dec 9 2013

If your machine's paddle attachment stops working, but the motor keeps running, simply grab your screwdriver- one of the gears has fallen off its shaft. Aside from that, this thing makes ice cream for you, wow! As long as you have the freezer power to keep the basin froze, it works like a dream. Don't be fooled by all those heavy recipes with eggs and heavy whipping cream, I've gotten away with skim milk and pudding mix, and I've got three cups of 2% in the machine firming up nicely this second.

Hamilton Beach Ice Cream maker April 23 2010
By Krys - Published on
I have this. It freezes the mixture into a nice soft serve in about 30 minutes. The only issue I have with it: the mixture sticks to badly to the sides of the freezing container, you either have to scrape it out, or wait for it to melt (which takes a while, the whole container has to totally warm back up). You loose a quite a bit of the mixture that way, and it locks up the machine and won't stir it anymore because of this, so I end up with about 1/2 of what I put in there.

Good Ice Cream Maker Sept. 5 2010

This product is good. It works just like it says. It makes soft serve ice cream within a half hour of putting ingredients in if you have had the cold bowl in the freezer for 24 hours, and have your ice cream ingredients chilled to fridge level. It's nice to be able to make our own ice cream without all the additives in store-bought ice cream.

I absolutely adore this ice cream maker! I just keep the bowl in the freezer so I can pull it out whenever I want to make ice cream! Everyone in my family adores it too! Absolutely perfect!

Easy to use. Aug. 28 2010

So easy to make homemade ice cream now. Make the Easy Vanilla Ice Cream if you have to have it tonight. Two containers would be great so you can make more than one batch in a day.

My only complaint is that it is a little loud.
