I bought this blender to make smoothies at work. I will be buying something with more power when this one fails.

PROS:
- Compact
- Quiet
- Inexpensive.

CONS:
- Cannot make a thick smoothie, it simply does not have the power.
- Starts smoking after 20 seconds of continuous use.

I had purchased on of these about 3 years ago and it was fantastic. It lasted me all this time, mixing up my daily shakes until just recently deciding to throw in the towel. Some things I loved about this mixer aside from the price were that the blades were sharp (would succeed in chopping up the chia seeds I put in my shakes), the motor was strong enough to pull the protein powder from the top of the liquid down and mix it through, and the lid had a removable plug so I could easily add more water as needed. Now fast forward to this new one I purchased. Hamilton Beach has clearly redesigned this blender, and I couldn't be more disappointed. The motor is horrible to say the least. It doesn't pull the protein powder down from the top and it starts to make "I'm going to break down or blow up" sounds 30 seconds into blending. It also, as you'll read in other reviews, starts smelling like something is burning. The blades are now different as well. They are thicker and angled differently, resulting in an inability to chop my chia seeds like before (it now leaves them whole). It also makes me wonder if the new angle of the blades is partially to blame for the blender not being able to pull the top of the beverage down in order to mix it thoroughly. Then we have the new lid. For me, the new lid is a disaster b/c I don't take my shake with me on the run. So each time I need to add more liquid, I have to struggle to get the newly designed lid off (not always an easy task - you have to use your nails to lift it below the lip of the lid). So what did the new design do for me? It made me switch to a different blender manufacturer. I was loyal to Hamilton Beach until the redesign, but have now spent a bit more on a different blender and am happy I switched. This one has been discarded.

I bought this machine to make baby food...and it came through.. It is excellent. I boil up the fruits and veggies, add a little water to the blender and purees great ! No need for the other expensive brands. My kids have taken to it too. My 10 year old makes her own smoothies in the morning too. Totally recommended !

Works PERFECTLY! The motor is really powerful. The cup holds a lot, and it makes a nice portion overall. I read in some comments that the motor overheats; I quickly press and release the button repeatedly (like a pulse function), and so I haven't run into any overheating issues. I highly recommend this product. Because of its price, I will probably buy more for gifts.

I use this blender at work. It blends my shakes, chops ice ( ice cubes from drink fountains), and frozen fruits. Best part is blender is also a cup.

This was great for handling smoothies but it struggled with "harder" foods like nuts or oats. Not sure it is really powerful enough for day-to-day use but fine for making the occasianal drink.

I used to own this blender (white color instead of grey) in the past. I replaced it with a 12 cup capacity blender. I replaced the 12 cup blender by this blender because the 12 cup blender was leaking after a few use!! Also, that blender was very difficult to clean compare to this blender.

This blender can't crush ice unless there's liquid in the blender already, and you put in ice cubes one by one. I am fine with it because I don't put ice in my drink that often anyway.

Cleaning is fine for me because I uses a dish washer, the problem is the bottom part of the blender catches water while in the washing machine, have to pour it out carefully after the washing cycle. I don't know if this will cause any rusting?

The reason I love this blender is the blade and the cup are sealed together, so no more leaking!!! I hate it when I pour liquid into the blender and the blender leaks!!

This is the best blender I've used for smoothies and protein shakes. For people who have burned out the engine or just can't seem to get things blending smoothly, you just need to put the stuff you want to blend in the proper order, and pulse rather than hold the button down for the entire time. It does take a bit of time to figure out, but for this price and the ease of clean up, it's worth it. If you're trying to blend kale or anything that needs some power, don't bother getting this blender, it's not going to work.

NB. The best order that I found for optimal blending is to put your liquid first, then softer/smaller stuff like nuts or bananas and protein powder/any other powders, then finally at the top add in your ice cubes or frozen fruit. Finally, make sure you pulse when there are hard objects like ice cubes and frozen fruit. Holding down the blend button is guaranteed to kill the motor eventually with harder to blend foods.
