A Masterful Play Performed by Muscial Geniuses Dec 2 1999
By C. Berchild - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
Anyone who knows the Heiner Muller play "Hamletmaschine" will recognize that this recording truly captures the essence of the theatrical (anti-theatrical?) magic of this work. A must buy for anyone in the theatre or who is a fan of these German industrial masters.
Limited appeal for even hardcore Neubauten fans Nov 17 2001
By Winthrop Harrison - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
This is (at time of writing) a pricy import, with little information for the consumer. It's important they know this has no 'songs', although there is incidental Neubauten instrumentation throughout. It's a studio recording of Heiner Mueller's very loose concept of Shakespeare's 'Hamlet.' (I know little German, but I know enough to realize this is indeed a very loose interpretation of The Bard.) Blixa Bargeld performs most of the script. If you love to hear Bargeld's authoritive voice, you may enjoy this moody CD for that alone. And there are some gorgeously atmospheric momements - Gudrun Gut's Ophelia is creepy, the backing music is creepier. I appreciate it personally, but considering the cost, be careful with your decision. (Technical note: the Mueller play is on only one track, so you can't skip the segments you don't like on this 32-minute CD.) Hope this helps.

PS: Neubauten's 'Faustmusik' is very similar, with less appeal for non-English speakers. I didn't enjoy that one.

Explore EN! Aug 6 2005
By Joren A. Lindholm - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
This is a good release, but it's not for everyone. It's basically EN and Heiner Muller doing theatre together, in this case a unique version of Muller's play. (I wish more of their collaborations would be released). Comprehension of the German text would help, yet all I do is follow the musical sequence. The 30 minute single track incorporates different parts yet has a continuous theme of a slow (metal percussion) rhythm.
You can always go to (...), and download this recording direct from the band for a fair price.
