Book Description

Jan 7 2003 Needlecraft Mystery (Book 6)

“Monica Ferris has a talent for vivid detail,” raves the Old Book Barn Gazette. And her heroine, needlecraft shop owner Betsy Devonshire, is “a great character” says Midwest Book Review. Now it’s up to Betsy to unravel a five-year-old murder case that refuses to die…

Betsy is still new enough to Excelsior, Minnesota, to not know a scandal when she causes one. So, when she hires Foster Johns to fix her roof, the resulting uproar has her needled. The whole town has pinned a five-year-old unsolved double murder on him. Betsy believes Johns when he says he isn’t guilty. But she’ll have to use every stitch of her sleuthing skills to tie up all the loose ends that will prove his innocence once and for all.

Great adult "Nancy Drew" and very entertaining...interesting for needleworkers.

4.0 out of 5 stars Betsy solves another July 14 2003
Format:Mass Market Paperback
A bit slow at first but moves along quite well after the first few chapters. Even non-needlework savy readers will find this book will catch their interest. The character of Betsy Devonshire continues to develope nicely, as do the others in her small community. This tale is of an old unsolved crime that continues to cast its' shadow on a prominent businessman. Betsy takes on the task of clearing up the rumors and solving the crime. The ending isn't original but Monica Ferris does an excellent job of making it a believable one. Ms. Ferris storytelling improves with each book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Good Needlework "yarn" from Monica July 11 2003
Format:Mass Market Paperback
The latest in this mystery series from Monica Ferris is one of the best. Good suspenseful plot, great atmosphere, and excellent characters (disclaimer - my hubby has taken up reading this series after me, and he HATES Godwin!) I only wish I'd been reading this closer to fall and Halloween - it was a little difficult to get into reading about hauntings and chilly weather when it was 95 degrees outside on the 4th of July. I should have saved it til the season was right. If you enjoy 'cozy mysteries' and/or needlework, you'll like this one.

3.0 out of 5 stars Crewel Jewel
The 6th Crewel World mystery is in the best Agatha Christie mood: the slightly ditsy Betsy Devonshire is asked to clear up a mystery deeply shadowing several lives. Read more
