Product Description

From the Inside Flap

All Pete Belissari wants is to sell his string of mustangs and catch up on some sleep. But first he'll have to outwit a band of Apaches intent on stealing his horses. And then he'll find himself at odds with, and maybe even attracted to, young Hannah Scott, who is trying to save her orphanage from evil rancher Rafe Malady. Fate throws Hannah and Pete together and hurls them headlong into a wild ride in this lighthearted, fast-moving Western told in authentic detail. They must summon all of their courage and skills before facing their biggest challenge: a must-win, backbreaking horse race against the top riders and steeds in the West. It's a race against time to save the orphanage - and themselves - from Malady and his gunmen.

5.0 out of 5 stars It keeps you turning pages, Jan 27 2000

I'm not a Western fan, but I read this author's first effort and put it down only when I had to eat!

Johnny Boggs' knowledge of the West shows through. His striking descriptions have you dusting off your britches when you get up from the easy chair after reading.

I cared about Pete and Hannah before it was through, and the villains are dastardly enough that you want to cheer whenever the heroes have a good day.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Western Winner For Romance and Hardscrabble Action, Aug 13 1997
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Hannah and the Horseman (Hardcover)
Good Westerns have plenty of action as the good guys and bad guys duke it out. Great Westerns have all this, plus a group of characters who make you care about who's standing when all the "duke-ing" is done.

Boggs has crafted just such a storyline. As a Texan, I really appreciated the exacting detail of the setting. The author truly knows his history as seemingly tiny details add up to an "Old Texas" escape for the reader.

This is Boggs' second book, and I'm eager to read his first one, "This Man Coulter."

Try it, You'll like it.

Two thumbs up! Joe Bob says Check it Out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Keeps you reading -- faster and faster!, Jan 28 2011

I bought this little book because I really enjoy Johnny D. Boggs' regular Western novels. I thought a young adult story might be fun, too.

I was right. My wife picked the book up first, though she doesn't read a lot of westerns. She read it in one sitting, staying up a little late because she didn't want to put it down. She told me to get started looking for the next book in the series--right now.

So the next evening, as the 10 o'clock news was over, I picked it up to see if I was going to read it next--just to give a quick once-over so I could start the next day. The next thing I knew, it was approaching 2 a.m. and I was approaching the end of the book.

Looking back on it, the story doesn't seem to be all that special, but my wife and I can tell you this--if you start reading it, it'll grab your attention and not let go until you finish the story. We loved it.
