From the Inside Flap
The Western Trail stretches from Texas to Dodge City, a grueling 800-mile journey, hard on animals, but even tougher on people. A drought has struck West Texas, forcing Hannah Scott and Pete Belissari to take part in a cattle drive to Kansas to save their ranch. Joining the tortuous drive are the orphan Chris, gunman Buddy Pecos and other old friends, along with J.W. Dougherty, a Shakespeare-quoting cook, and some inexperienced cowboys. Stampedes, shady characters and violent storms are old hat for the strong-willed Hannah and stubborn Pete. But Cal Maddox, a cowboy focused on winning Hannah's love, is about to provide the greatest test of the relationship between Hannah and the horseman.
