5.0 out of 5 stars Fast Paced, Highly Entertaining, Jan 2 2007

This review is from: Hannibal Rising (Hardcover)
Well, as a fan of Thomas Harris' work I feel obliged to post. This was my holiday read and I loved it. Hannibal Lecter is such an awesome character that "Hannibal Rising" was worth the wait. What a great storyteller! I am not a fan of horror novels, I guess you could call my preferred genre literature or specifically psychological fiction. I will take whatever I can get from this author, as is the case with my other favourites, I am never let down simply because I enjoy their style of writing and the characters they create.

3.0 out of 5 stars Hannibal Lite..., Dec 29 2006

This review is from: Hannibal Rising (Hardcover)
What a sucky book. I understand that Harris had to provide a background in what made Hannibal a psychopath, but all we get are a series of disjointed events and characters who have real connection to the story. Harris has joined the Jeffrey Deaver and Michael Connelly club of mediocre authors trying hard to write books that could be produced as blockbuster movies (bloodwork, bone collector, etc). Hannibal Lecter is apparently a bully fighting, family avenging hero in this book. Just wait for the movie and save your money.

3.0 out of 5 stars Hmmm...., Dec 23 2006
This review is from: Hannibal Rising (Hardcover)
This was a bit of a disappointment, not nearly as good as the other Hannibal novels; however, it is still a must read for Harris fans just so you can get the complete backstory of Lecter. The reading is sometimes tedious and even a bit dry, but there are some good elements. I recommend Michael Crichton's Next, David DeMello's Dead Scare, and James Patterson's Cross.
