The South Pacific island group Te Vaka returns with yet another hard-hitting, involving album - this even more diverse. A first listen to a few songs leads one to wonder where the classic drum beats - the signature of Te Vaka - have gone to: well, they're here, imbedded deeply in other songs. The introductory 'Ata Tou' is ethereal, gorgeous, with subdued rhythms and the sound of the sea in the background, for example. The lovely harmonies are still evident, the log drums' heart-pounding rhythms return in 'Tauasa', which holds much of the dance attraction Te Vaka is noted for. The South Pacific fusion sound is even more evident - and mature - in their latest album and Te Vaka remains a top pick for any library strong in Hawaiian and South Pacific regional music!
