Buy and read this book to all the preschool children you know!
When my youngsters were young, touch-and-feel board books were their favorites for reading time! They touched and felt so enthusiastically that each book had to be replaced at least once. I can still see my daughter's little finger touching the "mirrors" in those books with wonder.
Ms. Victoria Osteen has done Christian parents a great service by writing these books by using the power of touch-and-feel appeal to model how good Christians conduct their day. Let me explain.
In Hooray for Today! the right-hand pages contain expressions of continuing thanks to God for a child's environment and family. Here are a few examples:
"Thank you God!
Hooray! Hooray!
Thank you for sunshine today!"
"Thank you God!
Hooray! Hooray!
Thank you for my food today!"
"Thank you God!
Hooray! Hooray!
Thank you for my daddy today!"
In Hooray for Wonderful Me! are similar expressions with the first two lines being the same, but the subjects shifting to things about a child to be thankful for such as:
"Thank you God!
Hooray! Hooray!
You help me to be kind each day."
In Hooray for My Family! the theme of giving thanks is connected to things that family members do for a child such as:
"Thank you God!
Hooray! Hooray!
My mommy takes good care of me!"
I think it's terrific that children can learn from these books to be grateful for what they have and to continually thank God for those things. To me, it was like having Joel and Victoria Osteen conduct a seminar for me in how to be a good Christian parent by teaching my child how to think about what God does.
The illustrations by Ms. Betsy Day are gorgeous, properly expressing the kind of Christian joy that Salvation can bring. The touch-and-feel aspects are brilliantly done. There are my daughter's favorite (mirrors), glitter-raised letters and sections, soft material to touch (fabric, hair, and "fur"), sparkling sections (the sun), and doors and windows and clouds and paintings to open (with different scenes behind them). Sometimes the touch-and-feel features are obvious and sometimes they are subtle. Your child will love searching out the subtle ones. The second book also contains the alphabet.
With these models of good Christian living, your family will live closer to Him. What could be better?
May God bless you, your family, and all you do in the name of Jesus!
Brava, Ms. Osteen!
Brava, Ms. Day!
