4.0 out of 5 stars glorious colors and patterns April 8 2012

Warning: Happy Home is an explosion of colors. Enter at your own risk!

Seriously though, if you love Jennifer Paganelli's style, I don't see why this book won't be a favorite. There is an overload of amazing hues and patterns. The palette is bright, bold, happy and festive. The 21 projects are designed to help you transform your home into a vivid, happy space filled with cute, pretty and girly accessories. There are tutorials for ruffle pillows, fabric-covered boxes, bags, a basket, a bed cover, a bed skirt and a quilt. Additionally, there are projects to dress up your home for parties, like banners, garlands and pom-pom poufs. With some finished projects from the book, I can imagine throwing cheery bashes in a welcoming environment - and in glorious technicolor.

I like the book's design and photography. The instructions step-by-step, accompanied by a few diagrams. I would have preferred more diagrams or photos to illustrate the tutorials, which are heavily text-based. But the projects are not too difficult and some easy enough for beginners who will find the introductory chapter on basics of sewing techniques useful. There are pattern sheets attached.

Overall, this is a prettily put together book. The projects are not unusual but the fabrics are a treat and draw in themselves. Even if I didn't sew, I'd probably still have feasted on the kaleidoscope of colors and patterns.

2.0 out of 5 stars yet another beginner book Jun 6 2012
By Molly A. Dauster - Published on Amazon.com

I have been sewing all kinds of things for going on 50 years now, and, man, I wish I could get paid to write a book which contains only 20-30 projects, mostly notable for their color. Listen people, if you don't know it yet these colorways are all decided at the textile factory. You can buy fat quarter sets of pre-chosen matching colors/ patterns and styles all over the web. For the money this book costs you could make 10 projects using free tips and patterns from various other sites on-line. I'm not saying this book is bad -it's nice eye candy but in the end do you really need a pattern to make a square pillow?

4.0 out of 5 stars Happy Indeed Jun 29 2012

I'm a huge fan of Jennifer's fabrics, and I pre-ordered the book on Amazon as soon as I heard about it. Amazingly it arrived (in the UK), before anyone in the US received it.

It's a lovely book, full of beautifully photographed, vibrant makes - and you can't fail but feel happy as you turn the pages. If you're a fabric fan like me, you will probably be the owner of a plentiful stash of fabric and books - you just can't help yourself. If you love bright, modern fabrics - you will love this.

The projects are all fairly simple, and are ideal for sewing skills of all levels, including beginners. As a lover of colour, and all things a little quirky - the makes in this book appeal to me. Instructions are clear and concise - and you can't fail to be inspired by the gorgeous photography, which showcases all the fabulous Sis Boom fabrics at their best. If only I could buy them in the UK!

I read an earlier review, giving only 2 stars - which said that other than photos, you could find everything else online. Of course you probably can - but you can say that about just about anything nowadays. This is a book which I am delighted to have as part of my large collection of sewing books. I can generally make something by looking at it, and usually make up my own designs anyway - but it certainly doesn't stop me from thoroughly enjoying this book.

In summary - a great book to add to your collection, or indeed a great gift for someone interested in sewing.
