Great Series - No Extras?, Jun 21 2006
This review is from: Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew (1995) season 1 (DVD)
I guess this ran for such a short time on TV, nothing "extra" was ever made. It was a shame that this "first season" of the Hardy Boys starring Paul Popowich and Colin Gray was also the last. The two were *perfectly* cast as Joe and Frank, respectively, and the mysteries - though short - were interesting. It wasn't the mysteries that really made this series, though. It was the characters and the performances. Even though there were only 13 episodes and they were only a half hour long each, the characters were distinct and loveable and had amazing chemistry. Right from the first episode you could totally believe they were brothers and their relationship was the best part of the series. The only thing that could have made it better is: MORE EPISODES. But it's about 11 years too late for that. As such, I am just really glad that these episodes have finally come to DVD.

26 total episodes of the two half hour shows from 1995., Mar 23 2006
This review is from: Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew (1995) season 1 (DVD)
Not as good as the books, this series suffered from the Half-Hour format, not enough time for a deep mystery. But the production values & acting were quite good! Different, but the Same, May 7 2006
This review is from: Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew (1995) season 1 (DVD)
The key to enjoying this version of Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys is to look beyond the books and the 1977 TV series. Comparing too closely will only spoil the fun. Although a little older, Tracy Ryan's Nancy is still obsessed with mystery, Colin Gray's Frank is still serious, and Paul Popowich's Joe is still impetuous. Jhene Irwin's Bess and Joy Tanner's George are perfect. Yes, the episodes are short, but the mysteries are interesting. Just relax and enjoy, and be thankful we have another Drew/Hardy adaptation to add to our collections. Speaking of which, where the heck is Season 2 of the Pamela Sue Martin, Parker Stevenson, and Shaun Cassidy series?
