5.0 out of 5 stars Oh my!, Jun 18 2007

By far and away, this has got to be the most intense and mature book of the series. The imagery and creations of Ms Rowling can be quite disturbing (I'm thinking here of "inferi"). And yet she has created a world that is rich and luxurious, with new detail to be found in each reading. Indeed, the richness of the series can, in my mind, be compared easily with the richness of Tolkein's Middle Earth.

So much is learned about Voldemort's history. So much, in fact, that the reader can almost begin to feel compassion and understanding for the creature. And yet the personality and attitude of the young Tom Riddle (Voldemort) induces nothing better than a feeling of contempt for the boy.

After reading this book, I'm eager and curious to see how Ms Rowling has finished the series (I use past tense here because the final book is to be released in a matter of weeks from the date I write this).

1.0 out of 5 stars Great book BUT..., Aug 8 2009

I love this series. Started with book three in 2000 and then went back and read it from the beginning and was reading each one the day it was released - heck, I was even Dumbledore while working at a bookstore the night of O of the P was released.

So why am I giving this particular book only one star? It's because of its Canadian publisher, Raincoast, who have chosen NOT to publish the next, the final HP, book in this format. I went around to all the bookstores then finally emailed Raincoast about getting an adult cover copy in massmarketish paperback size so I could have ALL 7 in the same format. The response I got was this:

The publication is cancelled.

That means no HP7 in adult cover massmarketish format. That means they went and sold all of us HP1 to HP6 in the same format but we'll never have a complete matching set. They took my money for each of those but are not letting any of us have a complete set. Grrrrrrrrrr.

HP fans unite and petition Raincoast Canada into printing an adult cover massmarketish HP7 book!

5.0 out of 5 stars as always, jk rowling does it again!, Mar 29 2009
Excellent book, however this is by far the darkest book before the 7th book and perhaps a bit depressing. I noticed that the tone of writing changed in the 6th title. It targets more mature readers, i guess jk knows that her readers have grown up!

What a way to wrap up a series. I wish JK had told us what they were doing career wise, like Neville, but we know that Harry is gone from us. Read more

3.0 out of 5 stars Forgettable but enjoyable.
As the series goes on I find Harry less and less likeable and the story line more and more forgettably complicated. Read more
