From Amazon.co.uk

Each Harry Potter game plays to the format's strengths and has different elements in the gameplay; the Mac version of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone is no different. It follows the junior wizard's first year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and the focus is on the puzzle aspects of the game. The action begins in Diagon alley with our hero purchasing the supplies he needs to attend school; from then on it follows the story line in the book pretty faithfully.

Each level of the game concentrates on a different aspect of the story: attending classes (such as charms, herbology, defence against the dark arts, potions with the evil Snape); visiting Hagrid; having to collect Bertie Botts beans so that Fred & George Weasley will give you wizard's cards, which you need to beat He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named; win points for your house and, of course, learn and play Quidditch.

The graphics look pretty good, but the real winner is the sound: the music is just perfect and the eerie sound effects make you believe that you really are at Hogwarts School. The only criticism is that the game is very short and even younger kids will complete it relatively quickly. If you are a Harry P fan then you won't be disappointed, if you are looking for a challenging action-adventure game then you might want to look elsewhere.--Jenny Fisher

Could have been better Feb 22 2004
I thought this was a fun game, but it definitely wasn't perfect. The graphics were weird, but kind of cool. It is annoying how you can't skip through when people are talking, and how Peeves looks like a clown. But the worst part of the game is the Quidditch. It take forever to win! Other then those little defects, the game is fun to play, even if there wasn't really all that much to it.

THIS GAME STINKS!!!!!!!!!!!! Jan 1 2004

Thank god i didn't buy this piece of junk, i borrowed it from a friend! The whole thing is completely different from the actual plot! Flipendo doesn't even exist in the real books, and it's basically all you can use. Half of the stuff in this game probably didn't even cross Rowling's mind! heres a list of pros and cons, (or rather all cons)

Pros.
the quidditch was the only thing i enjoyed about this game

Cons.
poor graphics
mouths don't move when they talk
no actual spells from book

hard to get coins from gringotts,(this took me about 100000 tries
so easy to defeat quirrel, devils snare, etc.
peeves looks like a circus clown
easy to get lost in the school
dumbledore looks like a pig
if you die, people talk all over again

in other word, I HATED IT!!

Fun game...but those dang blackouts!!! July 22 2003

I loved this game. You could do all the things Harry could in the book. You become a virtual wizard!

But then all came crashing down when the screen goes black. You quit the game and then restart it and your saved spot is black! All that hard work for this?! The patch won't fix it either. Don't bother with this game! I read all of the bad reviews about the screen going black and thought it could never happen to me. But it did. I am running the game on a brand new 2003 12'' powerbook G4 so it is not my computer. Buying this game is a gamble as I see some people don't have a problem with it. Another thing I don't like about it is how slow harry moves and how stiff her seems. This is for a little kid who doesn't care about aesthetics, just that he is in Harry's world. Though I am sure that the kid will be sorely disappointed when towards the end of the game the screen goes black and he or she cannot continue to the end, but has to start the game over. :(
