Book Description

Nov. 1 2011 Healing Your Grieving Heart series

Navigating the challenging journey that families and friends of Alzheimer’s patients must endure, this heartfelt guide reveals how their struggle is as complex and drawn out as the illness itself. Confronting their natural but difficult process of grieving and mourning, the study covers the inevitable feelings of shock, sadness, anger, guilt, and relief, illustrating the initial reactions people commonly feel from the moment of the dementia’s onset. Healthy and productive ways to acknowledge and express these feelings are suggested along with 100 tips and activities that fulfill the emotional, spiritual, cognitive, physical, and social needs of those who care about someone afflicted with this debilitating disease. Special consideration is also shown for caregivers, whose grief is often complicated by the demanding physical attention that patients require.

5.0 out of 5 stars Understanding Alzheirmer's and Dementia Jan. 16 2012
By Lea
Format:Paperback
This is a wonderful book to help you understand Alzheimer's disease with a loved one. I have two people that are going through this process with a family member. I have heard back from one person who is presently reading this book and she thought the book was a great help to her. Sometimes we don't understand why we feel the way we do with a loved one. This book helps to understand the disease and ease the guilt that the caregiver is feeling as they adjust to companioning the losses of a loved one with dementia.

Most of the information I knew. However, there were some areas it addressed that I didn't. What I did like is the book focused on the caregiver not just for someone with Dementia but when it becomes Alzheimer's and recognizes that people do in fact grieve while their loved one is still alive because they aren't the same person.
