Book Description

Sept. 1 2011
We are living in a society today that offers more food choices, more health support and more nutrition resources than ever before, and somehow as a human race we are fatter and sicker than ever before. Healthy eating and having health as our natural state of being are not impossible tasks. We simply need to reignite our innate ability to know what is good for us, how to maintain our health and heal naturally using the most fundamental tool-our food.

Healing & Prevention Through Nutrition explores some of the reasons for today's nutritional misinformation and invites each reader to redefine what healthy truly means. From how we approach our food choices, to what we consider a treat and why the popular "everything in moderation" paradigm does not work are discussed. Teaching her audience and inviting them to be accountable for their own health and well being, Evita Ochel fully explores how to eat, what to eat and why for optimal health, healing and prevention in the simplest manner possible. Practical tips are given and specific foods are explored in order to empower the reader to understand all of their food choices.

Whether you want to lose weight, heal or prevent a disease or simply maintain good health, this book will help you make sense of your food and all the nutritional information out there. It will put you back in charge of understanding your food and knowing without a doubt the power your nutritional choices have on the quality and longevity of your life.

Learning how to reconnect with wholesome, natural food and nourish of bodies for optimal health has never been as essential as it is today. Prevalence of disease and obesity are at an all time high and our hectic schedules and accessibility to prepackaged processed foods have caused many to lose sight of what constitutes healthful, optimal eating. Claims such as 'low in fat', 'high in fibre', and 'made with natural ingredients' are not enough; we have to consider the entire picture of the foods we are consuming and realize that out bodies need real, whole foods to achieve optimal health. Healing and Prevention Through Nutrition is one of the best natural nutrition resources I have read. It teaches and reminds you of how to maintain health and prevent disease through food. Not only is it informative, easy to understand, and well laid out, but it is also truly inspirational. Evita makes eating for optimal health achievable for anyone and everyone and that's what makes this book a must-read!

5.0 out of 5 stars Thought-Provoking and Action-Inspiring Nutrition Advice from An Expert in the Field Dec 10 2013
By M. Bord - Published on Amazon.com
"Healing & Prevention Through Nutrition" changed my life. After 20 years of struggling with what, how & why I eat, along with body image, the advice contained within this book freed me. Evita Ochel provides a simple road map that integrates mind, body and spirit considerations when it comes to holistic nutrition. By following her advice, looking and feeling my very best has been easy. What's more, Evita has a straightforward, academic - yet gentle - way of presenting information. Another reviewer wrote that she has no agenda other than spreading knowledge, and I agree. It's a style I both appreciate and admire. I highly recommend this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent! Thank you for continuing my education in nutrition :) Oct. 10 2013

I'm just an average housewife trying to feed my family of six. I'm on a mission to "brainwash" myself into better nutrition. Isn't that a sad statement? The SAD diet is so ingrained in my life that I have to regularly watch documentaries and read books such as this one to continuously remind me what to eat and why I should be eating this way instead of how I've been eating since I left home after college. While growing up, my mother stayed at home & cooked for us and always kept fruits & veggies in the house as well as placing them on our plates, but meat & dairy were the focus and sugary desserts were a daily treat. Fast food cheeseburgers with deep fried cherry pies fell right in line once I left home. Fast food became the norm for my growing family while my hubby and I both worked full-time. Not until my maternity leave after the birth of my twins three years ago did I come upon Food, Inc and began this journey into better health. My eldest daughter is currently taking a foods class in high school, and they've baked cookies & brownies & watched a video on how to make yogurt, sour cream, whipped cream, butter etc. from milk. When I asked her about the video, she didn't know if the milk was raw or not. I had high hopes for that class since I sorely lack kitchen skills, but it doesn't appear to be educating her much beyond the SAD diet. She loves her soda & candy but she also likes to cook so I'm hoping to influence her by setting a better example before she leaves for college. My other three children are so young that I have a much better chance at helping them establish a better relationship with food. My twins love to shop at the farmers' market & devour raw apricots, berries, plums, apples, cucumbers, carrots & broccoli. I recently bought an Omega masticating juicer & just last night they enjoyed a strawberry, orange, & carrot juice. Now these are all fruits & veggies that they love anyway, but I'm hoping to get more greens into them through juicing or smoothies. Our latest discussions about food have been about learning which foods help them grow big & strong and which do not. Fruits & veggies = big & strong boys, while sugary cookies & pies are not good for our bodies even though they taste good. Let's hope some of that sticks with regular reinforcement! Thank you for this wonderful resource to help keep me on this path to better health for everyone in my family. I'll keep watching videos & reading & talking to others about what I'm learning & hopefully pass on a more natural way of nourishing our bodies to many others in my life. It's time to take back our health & what better way to continue this revolution than to educate as many as possible and to outlive all the others ;)
Blessings for fantastic health & joy!
