Review

"...a comprehensive overview of psychological knowledge inrelation to health and illness. I particularly liked the book's emphasis on theoretical explanations of health behaviour. The clear and accessible style of writing and the way theory is applied through illustrative examples make this book very useful for teaching purposes." - Ad Kaptein, Editor Psychology and Health "Jane Ogden has succeeded in producing a very clear, readable and up-to-datecritical overview of health psychology with a refreshing European focus." - John Weinman, UMDS Guy's and St Thomas's "Jane Ogden has produced a superb source-book of information for nurses and other health professionals...Although this is a textbook, I found it easy to become engrossed in it as an interesting book in its own right...The book is extremely well produced and attractively packaged. 4.0 out of 5 stars I use this book Sep 5 1999

I have used this book for the past 2 years in my Health Psychology course. I chose it after reviewing other psychology books (about 5) and find that it gives students a good background in Health Psychology without making many of the mistakes of other Health Psychology books. Plus, it's much less expensive and more readable than other texts. I expect that my students will not only purchase it but also read it!

3.0 out of 5 stars Pleasant to read yet somewhat one-sided May 13 1999

Ogden's work offers an accessible introduction to health psychology. In comparison to many a dry textbook it certainly is a pleasure to read. In my view, however, the author could have paid more attention to other than psychological aspects of health - I thought she got carried away with ascribing about everything to psychology. I do realize that this work IS on psychology but that still doesn't mean psychology has all the answers. More medical information on mind-body interactions would have been useful. Also, I wouldn't have found the repetitions of study descriptions at different places necessary.
