4.0 out of 5 stars 80's Cher Nov. 7 2002
Format:Audio CD
HEART OF STONE is a strong effort from Cher. Her voice lends very well to these songs, and it's a fairly consistent effort start to finish. The album opens with the mega hit "If I Could Turn Back Time", a signature song for Cher. There's a mix of a little of everything on here, from rock, to tender ballads. The feel of the album is very 80's, definately because it's from that era, but it's still a solid sounding album. I enjoy the tender "After All" with Peter Cetera, the theme from CHANCES ARE. Other hits spawned from this album included "Heart of Stone" and "Just Like Jesse James". My favorite tracks include "If I Could Turn Back Time", "Starting Over", "After All", "Still In Love With You", "Does Anybody Really Fall In Love Anymore?" and "Love On A Rooftop". As other reviewers have pointed out, this is a good CD to start your Cher collection with. Not a bad CD to add to your collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cher's best album. March 31 2003
Format:Audio CD
I have Cher's whole discograaphy sience 1987, when she released her first Geffen record. They're all great but definitely "Heart of stone" is the best.
This album is from 1989, it includes some of Cher's biggest hits ever such as: "If I could turn back time", "just like Jesse James" and "After all" next to Peter Cetera.
"Heart of stone" became Cher's first multi-million selling album, it sold over 3 million copies in the Us and it's her best selling after her 1999 smash album "Believe".
Some of the song in this album were written by Diane Warren, one of the best song writers of all times, she writes song for singer such as: Michael Bolton, Celine Dion and Toni Braxton.
Other hits of this album are "Kiss to kiss", "Love on a rooftop" and the tittle it self.

5.0 out of 5 stars GOLDEN ATTITUDE Nov. 18 2002
Format:Audio CD
This is by far one of Cher's best ones in my collection.
She surpassed her previous effort, and in 1989 she got to rank even higher on the charts (IF I COULD TURN BACK TIME penned by Diane Warren significantly reaching # 3 on the singles charts and producing 3 other Top 40 hits...).
Reasons may vary: the (in)famous video for the above-mentioned tune, shot on that navy vessel, banned by MTV; the impeccable choice of writers (Warren, Child, Bon Jovi, Bolton, Galdston) and producers (Guy Roche, Peter Asher, Jon Lind, Michael Bolton, Diane Warren and Desmond Child again); the collaborations (great duet with Chicago's former vocalist Peter Cetera on AFTER ALL); the top form of her vocals (JUST LIKE JESSE JAMES, KISS TO KISS) and energy (EMOTIONAL FIRE, DOES ANYBODY REALLY FALL IN LOVE ANYMORE?) put in this work.
I suppose you can name it only by purchasing the CD and choose for yourself.
I am not going to rate it less than 5 stars, it should earn 6 if i had the chance....

5.0 out of 5 stars This is excellent! April 27 2000
Format:Audio CD
Cher's newest album, "Believe", is a great album, but "Heart Of Stone" really shows off some extremely well-written songs by Diane Warren. And leave it to Cher to breathe life into them. From "Just Like Jesse James" to "Heart of Stone" (a personal favorite) to "Does Anybody Really Fall In Love Anymore?" (with Richie Sambora on guitar)... this is a must for any Cher fans!

4.0 out of 5 stars Rock Queen May 10 2000
Format:Audio CD
I first must insist that this is a four and a half-star album, but by no means good enough to be marked as five. This brilliant transformation as Cher as the rock goddess is another genius move and behalf of her.
The set is complied of hard and soft rock numbers that display Cher's voice in a great light. The hits like the adult contemporary smash "If I Could Turn Back Time", the gospel tinged "Heart Of Stone", the lovely duet with Peter Ceatra "After All" and the country sass of "Just Like Jesse James" show a wide range of rockers, but the songs while catchy and very likable come out with much of the same sound. While the differences musically in tracks like "Love On A Rooftop", "Because Of You" and "You Wouldn't Know Love" the lyric content is great and the way Cher forces them out is awesome.
The major brilliance in "Heart Of Stone" is the fact that it gave Cher so many hits after she become a huge movie star, yet not exactly during the time the movies where coming out, like "Cher". She manned to diversify music form her acting, yet while having many of the songs sounding like screenplays. The CD has many great songs, but in a rock rut with a few classy ballads, it is not as powerful or exciting as "Cher", which in many ways is the album that brought her back only the hits weren't as big on that record. Still "Heart Of Stone" is worth more than a listen and far better than its follow up "Love Hurts".

Format:Audio CD
This is Cher's most substantive and well rounded album. The material covers everything form slow simmering and booming ballad for which she is so well known ("After All"), to the mid tempo social commentary ("Heart of Stone") to up and moving Cher everyone knows("If I Could Turn Back Time"). My first thought was wondering how in the world will they ever decide which cuts to release as singles??? Hardly any filler type material. Most disappointing: "Emotional Fire". Reminds me of this album's "Perfection", but not nearly as intersting or well crafted. Cher stretching her vocal ability, albeit great, but here sounds like she is be driven by the music. Personal favorite(s): "Starting Over" (Michael Bolton producing), "All Because of You" . hate the art on the original album release, replaced by an okay photo on later pressings. Always waiting for "the" Cher album cover she could so easily do. All in all a great, true rock/pop album....Cher has arrived
