4.0 out of 5 stars Romantic Times Review, Feb 21 2004
By
K. J. Blake "Super Reader" (Phoenix,AZ United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Heart and home (Paperback)
Adam Hart has always dreamed of being a frontier doctor, and accepts his post, assuming wrongly, that his fiancie will follow him to this new home.

When he recommends serious surgery for his first patient, her granddaughter refuses to allow it. Jane Sparks feels such a drastic treatment of her grandmother's pneumonia isn't good since she also suffers from a terminal heart condition.

From their first meeting, both begin a gentle lesson about surviving loss and learning to lead a new life. Jane runs a boarding house where Adam takes his meals. As the two become acquainted, Adam starts to get increasingly concerned about her overworking. So concerned, in fact, that he recommends she not be allowed to adopt a troubled child from an orphan train.

The committee gives care of the child, whom no one wants, to Adam, who turns to Jane for help, despite his earlier stance. Then the girl's pre-adolescent brother shows up from New York, determined to take care of his sister and Jane and Adam find themselves playing parents to not one but two children.

There's an engaging flow to Cassandra Austin's prose that matches this warmhearted love story, and she creates a winning portrayal of a simple, unsentimental approach to life-and-death events. SENSUAL.

I just finished the book yesterday and I couldnt put it down. Its a great story of Love, honesty and trust. When Dr. Hart arrives in the west he is lonely since his fiancee has stayed in the East. His yearning for friendship and companionship drives him to the bording house where he and the owner Jane Sparks Form a close friendship. Where the story goes from there is on a long adventure of mixed emotions and torn trusts. When the Children from Children's Aid arrive looking for a home things really get moving. A must read for anyone who loves a great book!
