Buffy and Angel both battle the same ancient evil, a Possessor who was once Qin, First Emperor of China, and who is now attempting to usher in the Year of the Hot Devil and drive humans out of this dimension.
Great Novel for Adult BtVS & Angel fans by Nancy Holden.
If the publisher wants me to continue to buy the books I want them to follow events on the show, not allow the writer to produce fanfic based on her own interpretation of what transpired.
I have never watched "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" so I was very unfamiliar with the characters. Crossover books don't work well for people who only watched one show.
I will try reading one of the books that focuses more on "Angel" next time.
Different people love different things and have different tastes. Obviously a lot of people loved "Heat", but it just isn't the type of book that I enjoy reading.
I don't care if you love the stunted adolescent Buffy/Angel twu wuv angle, the book is riddled with errors. It would help if it appeared that Holder bothered to watch the shows after 1998. Almost consistently, Holder books she are so far removed from the characterizations of the show (not to mention the history of the show) that she makes the amateur efforts of fanfic writers look like well researched literature in comparison.
I wish the publishers would spare us any more of these mindless books that pander to B/A shippers but nauseate anyone who bothered to actually watch the shows (hint: the characters who were on screen bear little to no resemblance to the characters that Holder writes). It also would help if the publishers bothered to check spelling and grammar.
The book is silly and stupid. Not surprised given how silly and stupid the Holder ghost-written "Chosen" novel was(which also bore no resemblance to what was on screen. . .which is scary since it was taken from the actual scripts. Also some of the descriptions in that one went straight into the purple prose spoof category).
Please, if they are going to publish Buffy novels, get someone who watched the show. . .and can write.
The rest doesn't matter. The plot may be good or boring, the writing may be fine or uninspiring - but who cares? The only thing that counts is Buffy's declaration of her eternal love to Angel.
Memo to Hollywood producers: be ready for an influx of ads and letters about an urgent need of a movie about Buffy/Angel reunion. Now when B/A warriors have a proof that campaigning succeeds if you do it long enough they will flood studios with demands for a big budget big-screen adaptation about Buffy/Angel reunion.
I'm a Buffy/Spike fan and I always thought that I shouldn't push the writers and dictate them what to write. Obviously I was wrong. Obviously other fans must be as active as Buffy/Angel warriors are. So I give this book one star and I apologize to Nancy Holder for doing it. I do it because I don't like the couple Buffy/Angel. I think that it's totally fair to call writer's and editor's attention to the fact that there are fans who root for Spike and loathe Buffy/Angel reunion.
