Product Description

Amazon.ca Product Description

Each set of HeatTrak Residential Mats and HeatTrak 120V Industrial Stair Mats requires one HR-P Power Unit to connect the system to an electrical outlet. If you don't buy a HR-P Power Unit for these systems, your mats will not work. This item is not required for HeatTrak Industrial Walkway Mats. The HR-P Power Unit connects your system to a 120V electrical outlet and allows power to flow to the mats. You can connect up to 13 amps on a single Power Unit. If your connected mats (either Residential Mats or 120V Industrial Stair Mats) exceed 13 amps, you will have to split up the mats and add a second Power Unit to plug into a separate outlet. The Power Unit contains a watertight connector that will allow it to connect to the first or last mat in your system. The unit is rainproof and is designed to be left outside for the entire winter season. Power Unit contains a 6 foot cord and inline Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter. If your electrical outlet is further than 6 ft away, consider using a watertight cable extender (see Model No. HR-EXT25).

The power cord is necessary for the mats to work. It is simple to set up and easy to use.

I use it combined with 2 HR20-60 to get to my spa during the cold season. No more slips and running because of the cold concrete. I make plenty of jealous!

Required For HeatTrak Mats - Highly Recommended Nov. 25 2010

Each of these HeatTrak HR-P Control units can control up to fifteen HeatTrak HR10-30 Residential Snow & Ice Heated Safety Tread, 10-Inch by 30-Inch, 120 Volt or five HeatTrak HR20-60 Residential Snow & Ice Heated Walkway Mat, 20-Inch by 5-Foot, 120 Volt (or a combination of each), so we needed two units to control two Step Mats coupled to four Walkway Mats and one for five additional Walkway Mats. These work pretty much as expected, with the following observations:

+ Easy To Install; connects to mats via a waterproof coupler
+ Heats Up Fast; was over 80 degrees Fahrenheit after fifteen minutes

See my individual reviews of the Walkway and Stair mats if interested those products.

I have the HeatTrak door mat and 2 stair mats. This helped connect everything. Definitely worth it. HeatTrak mats have helped so much this winter!

Purchased this along with the HeatTrak HR 20-60 heated mat. I've had it since mid December, 2010 and it's worked well through several snows, including the 21" that we got in our area of Chicago on Feb 2, 2011.

Really good product Jan. 28 2013

I can never quite decide if I think it's an advantage that HeatTrak sells all of the components for its heated walkway and stair mats separately, so you can add on to a configuration without needing another power unit, or whether it's a ripoff that you can't use the mats to begin with without making an additional purchase. I have an old house with limited outdoor electrical outlets, so the 6-foot cord is never long enough, either. Be that as it may, the HeatTrak system itself is fantastic! I've used the stair mats for several years on a set of front-door concrete steps that used to give me homeowner liability nightmares in the winter, and this year I added a walkway mat to the ever-icy backdoor entry (thus the need for a second power unit). Just this morning I enjoyed that safe (and a little smug) feeling again as I woke to the results of night-long freezing rain, sleet, and slush to find my steps and walkway ice- and snow-free. Next year I'm definitely adding a doormat to the garage entry! (As well as, sigh, another separate power unit).

Heat Trak power unit Nov. 16 2013

This is season 2 with the heated mat (20"x5'), power unit (necessary) and the temperature unit. The wind and snow lash us and my main door sometimes cannot be opened. This unit has solved the problem. I had an outdoor plug put in just for this. Normally this unit keeps my entryway clear of snow. It snowed so hard and fast once that I thought the unit wasn't working. When I went around to shovel, the unit was working just fine and had created a tiny snow cave - It just couldn't keep up with it that once. The temperature control turns it on ~ 32 degrees and off at ~45. I can leave the house or go to sleep and the temperature will determine the turn-on and shut-off. I may get a second unit that connects to this first unit.
