I first saw Saxon in 1981 at a rock festival in Germany. I've been a fan ever since, seeing them three more times. This CD brings back all those memories. They sound just as good if not better and they still "thunder". I like how they let the fans pick the set list. A lot of old favourites and now some new favourites as well.

POWERFUL, AMAZING,!!!!! May 26 2012

wow here is is, a holiday weekend in 2012 and im writing a review of the new double live saxon audio cd set from the fans choice setlist from the infamous wacken festival in germany saxon headline every few years, this set is from 2009 and it was saxons 30th ann set so this is probably and just might be the BEST LIVE SAXON ALBUM EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, i must admit eagle part one from 1982 is hard to top and eagle part two from 1996 is another top notch one and even eagle part 3 from 2006 is another monster live double saxon opus but this show is very special, we are now at a time in saxons 33 year carrere where i think we have enough live saxon albums out, there are others like the 10th ann show from nottingham uk in 1990, rock n roll gypseys from europe 1988 and that live in the raw cd pete gil put out about 12 years ago wich is a killer soundboard show from antwerp belgium in 1981, also dont forget the great live dvds of the past 10 years like the chronicals ( 2003) and the to hell and back again dvd ( 2007) wich covers a lot of road footage, also i think there is more saxon road footage from the past 10 years then there ever was for the first 10, anyway yet another great live outing saxon has released is the donnington 1980 show, id love the donnington 1982 gig if that was recorded as well, anyway this release is what im reviewing, saxon blow out some of the best classics and newer songs from the 00s and 90s on this great double live cd set!!!!!! this is pure saxon power at 100%, let me just fire off how great songs like these sound live on here let me feel your power, lionheart, unleash the beast, ROCK THE NATIONS ( i am thrilled they brought that back) also FOREVER FREE ( a very overlooked saxon album from 1992) and still hearing hm thunder live well you never get sick of it, ive seen saxon a lot of times here in new york over the past 30 years, i became a fan in 1981 and im still with saxon and never left there side even when some of the records where not so good, this double disc displays how around 2004 with the release of lionheart saxon came back to there oldschool 80s sound as best they could!!!! of coarse we cant recapture that great 80s production that comes from analog but they sure do there best on there more recent albums, for example in 2011 i thought call to arms was a killer saxon album and the best since maybe 1997s unleash the beast, there was a 5 dvd set of this released only through saxons fanclub and i got that as well but the 500 copies made are sold out now, still if you get the dvd of this you will get footage from the 04,07 and 09 wacken shows all mixed in one, saxon are still all these years on probably about the best oldschool metal band out there next to priest, maiden, accept, motorhead and ac/dc most of the bands just listed never tried to sell out once, ( sadley like saxon in the 80s priest altered there sound a bit and so did accept in the 90s) but all bands are back where they belong putting new music out that goes all the way back to there roots, the only bad thing with this setlist is my favorite classics like to hell and back again, sixth form girls and hungry years from 1980 are not on this setlist, hey i guess i cant have everything but what i can say is what i started to say at the beggining of this review, i think this may be saxons best live album yet!!!!!!!!!!!!! weather you are a diehard fan like me of 31 years or a newer saxon fan it does not matter, YOU WILL LOVE THIS LIVE OPUS IF YOU LIKE SAXON period, this album has potential to become a classic already and you know what???? i bet it already is after only 2 weeks on the market, PLAY THIS LOUD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THIS IS WHAT SAXON DO BEST....

WOW This is the best Saxon live yet. I live in houston, texas. where garbage rap and or mexican music prevails. Saxon played a small club on Call To Arms Tour. What a shame. This c.d. proves that great metal music is alive and well. If you like awesome metal,BUY THIS CD. Support real music, and musicians that have dedicated their lives to this art. PLAY IT LOUD!11 GIVE YOUR NEIGHBOR HELL!!!!!

love it ! Dec 8 2012

I may be one of the biggest Saxon fans around, I love this band and have all of their releases. There is without a doubt that Saxon even in their old age can do a live show just as good as anyone can or ever have and Wacken is one of their favorite venues. This band is tight.

Heavy metal thunder showcases one of their live events at Wacken and features many of their great songs on this disc. The sound is great for a outdoor recording and Saxon tears it up! The only down side is Bifs use of the f word a little too much, you shouldnt have to hear that but thats Bif in his live show excitment. This is a great live cd I dont care how many other live ones you have. If you love Saxon you will love this live cd. SAXON FOREVER !

Double Check DVD Dec 13 2012

This dvd/cds combo was great. Performances were top notch and sound quality was excellent too. My only warning i give to others, is that although my dvd was not loose in the package, it came scratched right off the grip-plate! It only affected one song, 747(Strangers In The Night). But it was repeated on the cd, and still got to see a third of it. Seemed like too big a deal to return and go through that hassel. So my advice is play all discs ASAP...though chances are most true Saxon fans will anyway, right?

Saxon, what more can you say. The live "cd" is my favorite part of this package. The CD hi-lights tracks from "Call To Arms" probably my favorite release since "Unleash The Beast". DVD is great also...It's Saxon...
