It is so easy to use and fits perfect under the jeep. It's very sturdy and swivels super smooth. The dog had no problem learning to use and now gets in and out with no help. Super great product:)

2.0 out of 5 stars Seemed great in theory Aug. 17 2013

The twistep seemed to be a great solution for my overweight bullmastiff to get in and out of my full size SUV but, he would not use it no matter what. For a lighter more agile dog, this would probably be great, but it proved to be useless for mine.

5.0 out of 5 stars Save your dogs! Nov. 25 2011
By A. L. Stump - Published on Amazon.com

I take my dogs to the park, to classes, and around town in a Jeep Liberty. Both dogs are young and agile (one large and one medium golden retriever)- for now. But I still worried about them jumping out onto our concrete driveway. While this step seemed expensive, I figured one trip to the vet for a broken or strained leg or shoulder would cost quite a bit more.

The step installs easily and stows out of the way under the back of the Jeep. It's easy to use and the dogs learned how to use it in literally seconds. My husband also discovered this makes a great seat when he takes the Jeep 4-wheeling up in the local mountains and he wants to stop for lunch.

I did buy the lock for the step as a normal hitch lock won't fit through the provided holes used by the bolt that attaches this to the hitch.

I've demonstrated this to quite a few people in my dog club, and everyone (with larger dogs) was very impressed. One of our trainers who has three mastiffs already bought one for herself. As she said, a good ramp for a large dog is well over $100 and requires a lot more work, fuss, and space to use.

5.0 out of 5 stars Doubts be gone March 6 2012

Yes this item is high priced, but it is a quality product and works quite well.
My lab is getting older and I was getting concerned about joint problems from jumping in/out of the SUV.
I wanted a ramp or something that would eliminate the joint impact from jumping.
Most ramps are bulky, and then you have to use valuable space to "store" them.
This step is very solid. One of the biggest benefits is that it swings under the car so that you can leave it mounted to your trailer hitch and not have to "store" it inside the car.

Also the surface of this step is true rubber, rather than the tar paper like covering that can be found on a lot of pet steps and ramps (which reviews have said scratch, tear and peel easily). It seems like this rubber will wear well and provide for years of use

Only 1 warning, they've designed this very well, including the fact that in order to get a hitch pin to actually fit it, you basically have to buy item 6033 from the same manufacturer. Since the holes are partially threaded the typical 1/2" hitch pins will not fit it, and after spending a saturday afternoon visiting 6 different stores that sell trailer items, none of them had anything that fit either. On the bright side, after buying the 6033 hitch, the step is ROCK SOLID with no wiggle at all. If you don't care about a wiggle, but want to lock up the $250 investment, I was able to temporarily use a thin trailer lock pin to lock it on, although it resulted in a loose fit, but it wasn't going anywhere. Some sights also offer the 6033 lock for free with the purchase of the step (of course I discovered that after buying on amazon) of course if I didn't like the step returns with Amazon are so easy it was worth paying extra for the lock.

My lab was a bit hesitant to use it, but after some training and treats she's getting the hang of it and it is becoming a natural use.

All in all, a good investment, especially since 1 vet bill could cost more than the cost of this step.

5.0 out of 5 stars DO NOT order the 6001 LOCK with this unit Sept. 30 2013
By Lyle W. Gray - Published on Amazon.com

The lock that is associated with the Dog step does NOT fit....so why would they "link" the two on the sales page? (others pointed this out, however I missed it)
Use the 6033 lock only.
One would think Heininger would have this resolved with Amazon by now.

Also if you own a 2006-2011 Tahoe or Yukon, and somer Pathfinders, you have to call them to have them send you another bracket.
Not a huge issue, however it adds time to when you thought you would be able to use it.

I'll give it a 5 star for now...just installed it...feels solid. Looks nice.

irritating to have to send back a lock though.....

Update 60 days: very pleased. This unit is solid and works well. I suspect the one negative review had an incorrect hitch to attach to as this unit does not wobble at all. My 13 year old Golden loves it!

I have an aging Newfoundland and was picking him up to get him in the car. I put this step on and within a few minutes he was climbing into my SUV like climbing a set of stairs, no problem! Well worth the money!!!

1.0 out of 5 stars It wobbles.... June 22 2013
By Chuck The Man - Published on Amazon.com

For such an overpriced item, it shouldn't wobble in the first place. It's not well made. There are much much cheaper alternative out there.....unless you want to spend even more money on getting the lock. If you want to return it, be ready to pay a 20% restocking fee. This is one of the very few vendors on Amazon that charges stocking fee. It's ridiculous! Go spend your money else where for something that is more reasonable and well made.
