Yes this item is high priced, but it is a quality product and works quite well.
My lab is getting older and I was getting concerned about joint problems from jumping in/out of the SUV.
I wanted a ramp or something that would eliminate the joint impact from jumping.
Most ramps are bulky, and then you have to use valuable space to "store" them.
This step is very solid. One of the biggest benefits is that it swings under the car so that you can leave it mounted to your trailer hitch and not have to "store" it inside the car.
Also the surface of this step is true rubber, rather than the tar paper like covering that can be found on a lot of pet steps and ramps (which reviews have said scratch, tear and peel easily). It seems like this rubber will wear well and provide for years of use
Only 1 warning, they've designed this very well, including the fact that in order to get a hitch pin to actually fit it, you basically have to buy item 6033 from the same manufacturer. Since the holes are partially threaded the typical 1/2" hitch pins will not fit it, and after spending a saturday afternoon visiting 6 different stores that sell trailer items, none of them had anything that fit either. On the bright side, after buying the 6033 hitch, the step is ROCK SOLID with no wiggle at all. If you don't care about a wiggle, but want to lock up the $250 investment, I was able to temporarily use a thin trailer lock pin to lock it on, although it resulted in a loose fit, but it wasn't going anywhere. Some sights also offer the 6033 lock for free with the purchase of the step (of course I discovered that after buying on amazon) of course if I didn't like the step returns with Amazon are so easy it was worth paying extra for the lock.
My lab was a bit hesitant to use it, but after some training and treats she's getting the hang of it and it is becoming a natural use.
All in all, a good investment, especially since 1 vet bill could cost more than the cost of this step.
