As with all Harriet Hargrave books, this one gives great detail, and lots of photos. Everything is covered from preparing your workspace, machine and quilt, to basting and finishing. Fourteen pages of heirloom designs for continuous line quilting are included to get you started. Lots of great tips!

Beautiful Quilting by Machine!,
By Lisa Lamme "Kansas Cowgirl" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Heirloom Machine Quilting: A Comprehensive Guide to Hand-Quilting Effects Using Your Sewing Machine (Paperback)
I purchased this book with the hope of finding a quilting option for finishing my tops more quickly without taking away from the beauty and design normally achieved with hand-quilting. This was a difficult step for me to take and Harriet made that step a successful one with her clearly explained and illustrated techniques, and ideas for choosing just the right quilting design. I have purchased many books on machine quilt design, but this book instructs you in the actual process of machine quilting--something I have not found as well explained in any other book.If you think you can't machine quilt on your home machine and achieve beautiful results, think again! Not only is it possible, but it is much easier than you could ever imagine! If you only add one book to your library on machine quilting, this should be the one. 51 of 52 people found the following review helpful

4th Edition is an Extreme Makeover! Worth buying again.,

I bought the 3rd edition a couple years back as a "supply" for a beginning machine quilting class. I have referenced the book many, many times. I saw the new edition out, but assumed it was just a colorized version of the 3rd edition. I found the 4th edition at the library and checked it out for the sake of curiosity to see how different it really was. The 4th edition could be considered a completely new book. If you have an earlier edition of this book, the 4th edition is worth purchasing without a doubt.

Brilliant,
By Marlene G. Kluzek "Aussie" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Heirloom Machine Quilting: A Comprehensive Guide to Hand-Quilting Effects Using Your Sewing Machine (Paperback)
This book has become my quilting bible. Harriet's years of quilting experience has led her to share the pit-falls of/and best of thread, needles and accessories for quilt making and quilting. She starts from the beginning - how to treat your fabric for straighter cutting, needle sizes, thread size, sewing feet plus, fabrics they are suitable for. Quilting with grids, free motion quilting and how to get started plus patterns and photos of exquisite quilts. Her book is written in clear concise language leaving no ambiguity.I believe this book is a must on any quilters shelf whether a learner or advanced quilter. |
