When Katarina Bishop was three, her parents took her to the Louvre...to case it. For her seventh birthday, Katarina and her Uncle Eddie traveled to Austria...to steal the crown jewels. When Kat turned fifteen, she planned a con of her own--scamming her way into the best boarding school in the country, determined to leave the family business behind. Unfortunately, leaving “the life” for a normal life proves harder than she’d expected.
Soon, Kat’s friend and former co-conspirator, Hale, appears out of nowhere to bring her back into the world she tried so hard to escape. But he has good reason: a powerful mobster’s art collection has been stolen, and he wants it returned. Only a master thief could have pulled this job, and Kat’s father isn’t just on the suspect list, he is the list. Caught between Interpol and a far more deadly enemy, Kat’s dad needs her help.
For Kat there is only one solution: track down the paintings and steal them back. So what if it’s a spectacularly impossible job? She’s got two weeks, a teenage crew, and hopefully just enough talent to pull off the biggest heist in her family’s (very crooked) history--and, with any luck, steal her life back along the way.

Kat used to lead a life of danger before she pulled her biggest con ever and walked away from a life of thievery to attend boarding school. Her enrollment lasts a few months before her old life comes crashing in on her and her plans. She's framed for a prank she didn't commit, but that will nonetheless result in her expulsion from school. Quickly she realizes this dismissal is the work of an old family friend. He's here to tell her that her master thief father needs her help. Turns out her father's been set up, too. Only the consequences are nowhere near as soft as being kicked out of boarding school. Kat secretly meets her father's deadly enemy and works out a deal. She has two weeks to find the paintings and steal them back. If successful, it will be the biggest job she'll ever pull off - and also the most dangerous. Can she do it? I adore THE GALLAGHER GIRLS series, but this new series may be even better. HEIST SOCIETY is my new favorite book. The combination of finding the art, the major heist, saving a relative, and going against the family makes for a thrilling, edge-of-your-seat read. Reviewed by: Jennifer Rummel

Katarina Bishop comes from a long line of thieves, but she decided to leave that life. But when her father is suspected of stealing a mobster's priceless paintings, Kat has no choice but to go back into the life which she swore she would never return too.I loved most of the characters: Gabrielle, Kat's beautiful cousin, who can be a bit of an airhead at times. Simon, the technical genies. The amusing Baghaw brothers, Angus and Hamish. Bobby, Kat's father and old Uncle Eddie. Nick, who is a mystery. Kat was a great heroine, she had her flaws and her good points. I also believe Arturo Taccone was a good villain , if he was a bit more in it - it would have been better but besides that he was a good antagonist. The only character I didn't like was Hale. He seemed 2-dimensional to me and I couldn't really gauge his personality. The only reason he seemed to be there for was his money and to be Kat's love interest. Also as opposed to most YA books, Heist Society doesn't dive into romance. There are hints of it in the book but it isn't anywhere near being the main point, which is refreshing. I have never read a book about thieves before and I believe Carter did a great job in that particular area. The thievery all seemed real and like it was really possible for it to happen. Also, although fictional, I loved the description of the paintings in the books. They gave me a vivid image when they were described. I have the sequel, Uncommon Criminals and will probably start it soon. All in all a great start to the series, although not as good as the Gallagher Girls series but I'm hoping it will continue to become better.

Just OK,

I really liked the idea of this story, it had a very Thomas Crown Affair vibe to it. I had a few issues with this book though, for starters I found myself saying things like "who is talking now?", "what are they even talking about", "that doesn't make sense" a lot. I don't know if it was just me but it felt like sentences were missing and I was lost half of the time. The characters were likable for the most part. I had a little problem with the main character Kat. I found that she didn't have much of a back bone and she was a little flat to me. I think that is mostly my personal preference though and another reader would probably love her. I did appreciate that this book was written in 3rd person, I'm not sure I would have made it though it if it had been written in 1st, but again that it my own personal preference. In the end I'm on the fence with this one, I'm not sure if I will read any more by Ally Carter
