This is a really good album, but slightly dissappointed me when I fist got it. Don't get me wrong, all the songs are great and Manowar put on a truly first class performance but I was dissappointed with the selection of songs on this album. I saw this album in the shop and bought it on impulse, cos I love manowar, but didn't look at the track listing. The reason for my dissapointment was that none of my favourite songs by manowar were on the album. I really love 'Metal Warriors', 'Kings of metal', 'Fighting the world' and 'Thor the powerhead' but these songs were nowhere to be seen. I do dig this album a lot and it has some really good stuff on it such as 'Metal Daze' which is a truly METAL song and Joey's classic Bass solos, but it could be better. In the last week I discovered Manowar's previous live album (released just before this one) which has all the 'missing' tracks that I mentioned before.
[I have ordered 'Hell on Wheels' album from amazon and will review it when my copy arrives]
I think this album was released because that previous live album, the similarly titled 'Hell on wheels' was so good and some of manowars fans felt that some of THEIR favourite songs were missing.
To fully appreciate what manowar are capable of on stage I think you need both albums (Four hours in total, manowar play long sets on stage). I would say to anyone thinking of buying this 'Buy hell on wheels first, then if you like that, buy this'.
I would, assuming 'Hell on wheels' is as well performed which I think it will be, sum this album up as:
'A tasty collection of the leftovers from the true metal feast that is Hell on wheels'.

I can't figure Manowar out. What they say and what they do are two different things. At times I believe they are actually the false metal band they claim to despise so much. The first two albums, Battle Hymns and Into Glory Ride, are indeed very good. After that, many of their albums contain weak, ballad-y tunes with violins, boys choirs, spoken word stuff. Crap, essentially, and definitely not "power metal". Are these guys brain dead, or do they think this stuff is heavy? You don't see Slayer doing that stuff. So who are the true kings of metal? Slayer win hands down. Manowar do a lot of boasting, but fail to consistently deliver. I don't wanna hear freakin violins or piano's on a metal album!!! My copy of Hell on Stage hasn't come in yet, but I'll give it an honorary 4 stars since I've seen them live before, although that was in the 80's. If they dare to play a power ballad, however, my ranking will be reduced to 2 stars. KINGS OF METAL DONT'T PLAY BALLADS, GET IT??? Leave them for Ozzy and Aerosmith!!!

This live offering is Manowar's second live double-album release in a row, coming on the heels of 1998's _Hell on Wheels_. Not having a lot of familiarity with the band meant hearing most of these songs for the first time in the live setting. This really wasn't much of a concern though, as the production and mix is so good that in most places it doesn't even sound like a live album. The vocals were pretty decent throughout, and there were a couple of outstanding solos, nothing mind-blowing, but solid all around. Favorite tracks include "March for Revenge", "Guyana", "Heart of Steel", and what has always been an all-time favorite of mine "Master of the Wind", just to name a few. The crowd interaction in reciting all of "The Warrior's Prayer" in unison was also a highpoint. As live albums go, this highly energetic one is quite good and is definitely a must have for all the Manowarriors out there.

Manowar is the best metal band in the Universe!! I have bought the album on April 15 and I can't stop listening it. There are many idiots that say Manowar is false and poser but even don't try to listen a Manowar cd!! Ask to Bruce Dickinson (or any other metal singer) to sing Gates of Valhala, Metal Daze, Battle Hymns or Dark Avenger (or any other song of the band!). That's impossible because only Manowar has this Power. Only Eric Adams can make those crazy (and on tone)screams!!! Hell on Stage is a GREAT album. Hell on Stage prooves that Manowar is bigger than any criticism. I know the other bands play (very well) but only Manowar Kiiiiiilllllsss!!!!! Congratulations Brothers of the World!! We received a Great Gift!!
