Product Description

This riff-heavy, Montreal-based retro stoner pop quartet is one of the more pop-oriented bands to come out of the mid-ought's metal resurgence. Their appealing music is proof that at least a few hipsters wearing '80s metal tees actually listened to the music made by bands who got Frank Frazetta to draw their record covers. This remixed and remastered version of the group's debut proves that while the dudes may not yet be masters of their genre, they're certainly adept students. Priestess are willing to mix and match from some of the best: Zeppelin, Priest, Leppard, Lizzy, even Heep. Take "Everything That You Are": its fuzz distortion solo starts out all early '70s (melodic and slow) then it goes into overdrive and gets early '80s on you in an instant (flashy arpeggios and screaming licks). The group has strong songs and all, but they could use either more self-consciousness, or less. Right now, that tongue-in-cheek business is kind of harshing all of our buzzes. --Mike McGonigal

Album Description

Priestess epitomizes the escape from banality and redundance in present day rock'n'roll, without pretense, or gimmickry. It is the positive intensity and true passion along with guitar riffage powerful enough to brand itself into brain tissue, this band achieves pure sonic bliss through genuine heaviosity and uncomprimized melodic hookery. Their debut album "Hello Master" is a mighty contributor to the world of rock'n'roll.

To be honest i haven't heard this album in its entirety yet, however, i have heard about 75% of it and i have to admit i am extremely impressed and excited on what this band is bringing to the table. The only other band that has gotten me this excited since the late 80's has been the new Wolfmother album, Also an insane retro style hard rock album with a hard driving new twist. The influences are instantly noticeable as the reviewer mentions, however its how Priestess uses these influences and then puts their own stamp on it thats makes this album shine. This band has a live sound to them even though the album was recorded in the studio. This is the same sense you get when you listen to the new Wolfmother album as well, its not 100% clean its edgy and gritty and makes you want to just scream and stomp. If you are into the new trend of hard driving retro guitar riff driven rock you will LOVE this album as i do. What was once old is new and fresh again thanks to bands like Priestess and Wolfmother who have perfected in taking classic influences and altering them to fit a new and emerging music scene. I hope more bands like these emerge and endure because like most people i have become completly drunk and ill off of pop rock cookie cutter groups.

Not really what you expect from a band called Priestess. You expect some sissy, girly music but what you get is pure, unadulterated, blow your ears apart rock. This band has managed, in their premiere album, to do what many bands spend their entire careers doing. The guys in Priestess have created an album that kills from start to finish. It is quite possibly the best rock album to hit the music scene in decades. I saw them in St. Catharines, at SCENE, just before they opened for Rob Zombie in NY. High voltage rock on stage and on the album. What more can you ask for? If you have had enough of what passes for rock music these days, the cookie cutter bands that all sound the same, get this album. Or maybe you like sissy, girly, pretend rock music? Didn't think so..BUY IT...NOW!

My first listening found me expecting each "next" song to be one that I wouldn't care for.... only to find myself in amazement at the end of the CD that this is one of the most consistant "hit potential" compilations of songs I have had the pleasure to listen to. Great job Prietess!! Hello Master is R O C K at its best...... the twist these guys put on it makes me realize that the future just arrived and I say... Hello Master! If you read this and love rock..... buy it, you won't be disappointed.
