If your a Hell's Kitchen fan you have to start your collection off with this first season. Excellent first season of Hell's Kitchen. It's a must watch if you are curious as to how Hell's Kitchen began. It's a must purchase. Overall excellent performance by Gordon Ramsay!

In the early 2000's I cancelled my cable for what I thought would be forever. Then later on, I got married, and big surprise here, the wife didn't want to live without cable! So we signed back up and she started watching her reality shows which I made fun of constantly. One of the first shows she started watching was Hell's Kitchen which I dubbed "Yelling Chef". I couldn't stand the way Ramsay shouted at these kids, calling them "stupid cows" and so on. Imagine my surprise when my wife, who is British, informed my that "stupid cow" is actually means something ruder than I thought it did!) But after a few weeks, I couldn't keep my eyes off. It started with the food...those delicious lamb chops. The creamy risoto. The golden scallops. And I started to learn a bit about cooking from Ramsays' yelling and shouting. My cooking skills grew from listening to and watching Ramsay. A lot of this show is definitely fixed, a lot of it is definitely edited into shape. You can tell. Why do competitions always come down to the final vote? Why do competitors who are low on leadership skills but high on drama always last so long on the show? Because Ramsay fixes it that way, obviously. Hell's Kitchen is geared towards drama and succeeds. However having said this, Hell's Kitchen is a much better show than, say, Big Brother or Survivor. For those who are interested in seeing how hectic a kitchen can get, and what it takes to run one, this is a great program. Sous chef Scott has been there since season 1 and knows his stuff. I won't go as far as calling this educational -- it's entertainment -- but the stakes are high for these chefs, and you can see what it takes to run a kitchen. 4 stars.

Super chef Gordon Ramsey whose Hell's Kitchen series debuted in 2005 in the U.S. after a successful run on the BBC,where it originated,is now on DVD.I must admit I did not buy this set but was given it by a friend to review.....thank goodness.I am also NOT a fan of so called "reality" TV(the most cheap and bankrupt type of television ever)and cannot for the life of me think what attraction people could have to such a vile and horrid show as Hell's Kitchen. The premise is simple:Own a restaurant, get some tenderfoot chefs in to berate and swear at continually, then in the end pick the best,i.e the one who can withstand Ramsey's continual verbal onslaughts the longest. It is amazing what people will subject themselves to for their 15 minutes of fame but it is even more amazing that people would actually watch and even consider buying this tripe. This is about the most disgusting show I have ever seen and I would never in a million years ever recommend this visual garbage to anyone. It is a total embarrassment to its participants and an insult to we the viewers. I will not give you the specs or any more info as that would be aiding and abetting Ramsey. If there were NO stars, this is what I would give it.Absolute crap.
