Review

Hemp, Lifeline is a must-have reference book for any writer or researcher of hemp. I use it frequently in the production of HempWorld. -- Mari Kane, HempWorld magazine

A wonderful resource on all aspects of hemp, from agricultural pursuits to its many forms as a commodity. -- Outfitter magazine, March 1995

An exhaustive study of all things hemp; history, physiology, industrial usage, alternative fuel source and the real reasons for its prohibition: profits! It won't take long reading this book to realize the crime of hemp is that America let a few people in power bulldoze one of our great resources into nonexistence. If reading this doesn't make you a hemp activist, it certainly will change the way you look at our so-called "Drug War" and make you think about this extremely important issue. Plus it will give you plenty of ammunition in your next debate on legalization. Ties together the issues of renewable resources vs. false public perceptions in our re-examination of mankind's oldest useful plant. -- Earth Tools, Summer 1994.

Chris Conrad, in his book Hemp, Lifeline to the Future, describes a house in the "biosustainable society" of tomorrow: "Hemp will be used in almost all the component parts of the house itself; the construction boards, insulation, finishes, paint and plumbing. Hemp is incorporated into the desk and all the papers in the house, the clothes in the closet, the fabric of carpets and curtains, and all the plastic components of phone and entertainment systems, computers and accessories. Hemp biofuel provides the household's energy supply."

Oh, and it's cool when you smoke it, too. Conrad cites the rich tradition of marijuana dating back to the Hindu epic story Rig-Veda, some 3500 years ago. Hemp, in short, is the only essential element of a peaceful, non-nuclear bio-world. -- Washington Post, May 31, 1995

I couldn't put this book down. Even though I knew much about hemp, reading all the new information that Chris has unearthed was fascinating. I highly recommend this book. -- Sally Miller, Synergy magazine, 1994

Reasoned, exhaustively footnoted. -- Orange County Weekly Cal., Nov. 17-23, 1995, p. 14.

Your book was truly inspiring. Hempsters owe a great debt to you for taking the time to collect the information required to write such an informative tome. I also really like the way Lifeline is presented. -- John Dvorak, Hemp magazine, 1996

Book Description

An easy-to-read, highly documented work, Hemp: Lifeline to the Future is the most comprehensive book on the uses, history, and politics of cannabis ever assembled. It looks at detailed industrial applications of cannabis hemp, the medical and nutritional uses of the plants flowers and seeds, and the controversies around marijuana. A scholarly work that captures your attention and holds your interest, this book has been the springboard for many businesses to get up and going in the hemp field, and has inspired countless acts of activism in the cannabis reform movement. A veritable encyclopedia of hemp trivia and historical detail, this book will help you understand why so many people are energized by the promise of hemp. Essential reading for anyone who has ever wondered how past societies were able to survive without modern products, and for anyone who wonders how future generations will be able to survive after the conflagration of the petrochemical era. It dedicates much attention to scientific and sociological studies that shatter the myth of marijuana as the "killer weed," and goes behind the scenes to view the manipulations by which this plant, probably the most versatile and valuable resource on the face of the earth, was demonized and banned under the misnomer "marijuana". Warning: This book might change your life, because once you learn the facts about hemp there is no returning to ignorance. Give a copy to your library, your elected officials, your parents, children, teachers: Anybody who cares about what is wrong with America today. The second edition of the book is 8-1/2 by 5-1/2 inches and over 300 pages, with a title page printed on hemp paper. It is in black and white and illustrated with diagrams to explain the text. The soft bound cover is varnished, with three color illustration. The work includes footnotes throughout, an index and an appendix.

5.0 out of 5 stars It changed my life, Mar 3 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Hemp: Lifeline to the Future: The Unexpected Answer for Our Environmental and Economic Recovery (Paperback)
A few minutes ago I finished a wonderful and impressive book, Hemp: Lifeline to the Future. It really amazed me, stunned me and enthused me. ... so many emotions went through me ... anger at the vested interests who so cruelly denied so many their rights to employment, health, freedom and enjoyment ... hope for a future with hemp ... amazement at all the positive products that can be made from hemp ... fellowship for all those engaged in changing the system to bring some lightness and brightness to the increasingly stressful and down-in-the-mouth world.

Chris Conrad has my complete and utter admiration for what seems to me to be a superhuman feat of research, communication, compilation and devastating exposition. Amazing. ...

"Thanks" is too small a word, but thanks for giving me the experience of reading your book - finally I have read a book that lives up to that old marketing line, "This book will change your life ...." It really will and it really has.

Thank you! - Allan Tierney
