Product Description

Product Description

The first in an epic two-book saga by beloved author Francine Rivers, this sweeping story explores the complicated relationships between mothers and daughters over several generations. Near the turn of the 20th century, fiery Marta leaves Switzerland determined to find life on her own terms. Her journey takes her through Europe and finally lands her with children and husband in tow in the central valley of California. Martas experiences convince her that only the strong survive. Hildie, Martas oldest daughter, has a heart to serve others, and her calling as a nurse gives her independence, if not the respect of her mother. Amid the drama of WWII, Hildie marries and begins a family of her own. She wants her daughter never to doubt her love-but the challenges of life conspire against her vow. Each woman is forced to confront her faulty but well-meaning desire to help her daughter find her God-given place in the world.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of her best, May 27 2010
This review is from: Her Mothers Hope (Hardcover)
With such a fine track record it must be hard to keep on producing books of this quality. Another wonderful book by Francine Rivers... And after what seemed like a very, very long time - she does not disappoint! This book was, I think, her best yet. It even rivals 'The Scarlet Thread'. It's a story that transcends time lines and border lines, reaching to the very core of the mother/daughter relationship. I mustn't give away the end, but suffice to say it leaves you wanting more!

For another great christian fiction book - but from a different genre Id recommend:

Godstone - The Kairos Boxes

5.0 out of 5 stars Francine does it again!, April 3 2011
This book is more of a journey than a sprint, but it walks you through different times and places while looking at relationships. It focuses on mothers and daughters, but also marriage. There are lots of joys and sorrows, I felt connected to the characters.

5.0 out of 5 stars fantastic, Jan 1 2011
This review is from: Her Mothers Hope (Hardcover)
I could not put this book down. It is a long time since I read a Christian book that kept me so focused on reading. This is one of Francine's best and I cant wait to finish this one and start on the second of the series. Makes you realise how easy we have things today, but I dont think we appreciate anything the same way they did in the early 1900's. Thank you Francine, you are an inspiration to all Christian women.
