Product Description

THE HERBAL MEDICINE-MAKER'¬?S HANDBOOK is an entertaining compilation of natural home remedies written by one of the great herbalists, James Green, author of the best-selling THE MALE HERBAL. Writing in a delightfully personal and down-home style, Green emphasizes the point that herbal medicine-making is fundamental to every culture on the planet and is accessible to everyone. So, first head into the garden and learn to harvest your own herbs, and then head into your kitchen and whip up a batch of raspberry cough syrup, or perhaps a soothing elixir to erase the daily stresses of modern life.

About the Author

JAMES GREEN is the founder of Simplers Botanical Company and is a professional founding member of the American Herbalists Guild and United Plant Savers. He conducts workshops on male health and herbal medicine making throughout the United States and Canada. He lives in Ocean Beach, California.

5.0 out of 5 stars Katolen Yardley, Medical Herbalist, April 3 2009
By
Katolen Yardley (Vancouver, Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Herbal Medicine-Maker's Handbook: A Home Manual (Paperback)
As a practicing medical herbalist I highly recommend anyone with a passion for plant medicine to purchase this book and bring herbal wisdom back home, to the kitchen and the garden in which the plants originated. This is an easy to follow, yet practical step-by-step guide for preparing herbal medicines at home, from preparing infusions and poultices to sitz baths and macerations. An expert guide to medicine making, with folklore and useful resources.

5.0 out of 5 stars Far more in-depth than your usual herbal recipe book, Mar 12 2001
This review is from: The Herbal Medicine-Maker's Handbook: A Home Manual (Paperback)
The Herbal Medicine-Makers Handbook blends the herbalist author's natural home remedies with his perspectives on the art of herbal medicine's applications, with recipes for folk extractions including plenty of recommendations for usage. The result is far more in-depth than your usual herbal recipe book, packed with insights on how to extract herbs, make tinctures, and apply them properly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very informative, Jun 30 2001
This review is from: The Herbal Medicine-Maker's Handbook: A Home Manual (Paperback)
Finally a book that takes the magic of herbalism and adds a healthy dose of structure, science and common sense. As a beginning herbalist, I find the information contained in the book extremely useful and not found in many other places. This book has earned its place on my favorite list.
