WAY better than the first...,
This review is from: Here We Go Again (Audio CD)
While her first album had some cute tunes, especially Trainwreck, On The Line and Don't Forget, it's very Disney... not personal in the least bit. With this album Demi shows that she can be on a Disney show while creating an album with real, personal, rock, sans-bubblegum pop music. While Miley, Jonas Brothers, and Selena Gomez are creating albums filled with songs that all sound the same that are solely meant for dancing and not looking deeper, Demi is shining. Here is a song by song review:Here We Go Again- This is the tied best song on the CD (you'll see what the other one is later). It's catchy, fun, passionate, real... highlight the catchy. It's a great first single, so fun but so real that you wouldn't be able to guess it was Disney. Think of Kelly Clarkson's "Since U Been Gone"... this has the same style. 5/5 Solo- This is catchy and fun and it definitely sounds like one of the songs she can connect to most. I'm very much a wordplay person, so I get excited at the "so low/ solo" part. Ummmm... yeah. 4/5 U Got Nothing On Me- Except for the beginning (screaming "you got nothing on me!" four times", this is a very good song on the CD. Catchy, fun. Awesome. 5/5 Falling Over Me- This song has some of my favorite lyrics on the album and definitely shows off the beauty of her vocals. But, honestly, it's quite boring. Cute but boring. 3/5 Quiet- Demi Lovato trying a screamo-type song isn't exactly amazing. Not very catchy and too loud. 3/5 Catch Me- This is the other best song on the album. SUPER CUTE!!!!!! And it just makes you smile when you listen to it. :) . The only song on the album that Demi wrote all alone. 5/5 Every time You Lie- I love the jazzy sound to it. It's also very "I'm over you" type. 5/5 Got Dynamite- This song, while not Disney-fied, is pretty annoying. It's fun, but the verses sound like she's Britney Spears. 3.5/5 Stop The World- Easy to tell that Nick Jonas co-wrote this song. It's fun and cute, but somewhat like "Get Back" off her previous album, which I find was overrated. 4/5 World of Chances- This song had the prettiest lyrics off the album. Very heartbreaking, in a beautiful way. One of my favorites. 5/5 Remember December- This song has grown on me, but although WAY out of Disney range, quite overproduced. 4/4 Everything You're Not- Somewhat like Solo. Catchy, pop-rockish... just not amazing. 3.5/5 Gift of A Friend- Cute, pretty, but easy to get sick of. 3.5/5 So Far So Great- Just skip this track. 2/5

Demi Lovato has proven with this cd that she has grown as an artist. My favorite song is definately catch me and world of chances. But the whole cd is amazing, her vocals are beautiful as usual.

Lovato's second album is well-produced, awesome vocals and very enjoyable. Definitely recommended!,

When I first listened to "Here We Go Again", the first single off her second album of the same title, I pretty much felt that we have seen this Disney-driven actress/singer blossom to a talented musical artist. It's one thing to see Demi Lovato shine on "Camp Rock" and her debut album "Don't Forget" but the singer has said that this album is "more me" and that includes a sound that incorporates a Jonas Brothers and John Mayer sound. Inspired by John Mayer, The Jonas Brothers and Jon McLaughlin, Lovato has collaborated with these talents and the end result is a fantastic sophomore album that easily eclipses her debut album in musical production but also vocally. It's one thing to have a solid track "Here We Go Again" but she continues that rock/pop excitement with tracks such as "Solo", "Got Dynamite" and "Everything You're Not". But she shines in tracks such as her acoustic guitar track "Catch Me" which she solely wrote, shines in the John Mayer collaboration with "World of Chances", the upbeat "Stop the World" track which she wrote with Jonas Brothers Nick Jonas and "Falling Over Me" which she collaborated with Jon McLaughlin. Overall, Lovato has distanced herself from other Disney talent turned music artists with her latest album "Here We Go Again". She can act but she can also sing and she has positioned herself to become one of the prominent young singers in the musical scene today. This album is definitely recommended! 14 of 17 people found the following review helpful

A wonderful 2nd album,
By Philly Farmgirl "Yael" - Published on Amazon.com
In her second Album Demi explores a lot of different music styles. Her rock is still intact, but she has a lot of nice slow pieces like "A world of chances." and "falling over me." Her voice is very strong and original, and it goes along nicely with all of her songs wither they are upbeat or mellow. She has also co-written quite a few of her songs. It is now one of my favorite albums and it is definitely a must for any of Demi's fans, who I'm sure will not be disappointed.

Believe it or not, I'm a 39-year-old male who has come to like 17-year-old actress/singer Demi Lovato. I say again! I'm a guy on the doorstep of 40 and I actually like both of her records! Her 2007 debut, "Don't Forget", was a very enjoyable pop/rock record that showed a sense of Adult Contemporary maturity that is lacking in the sound quality of her Disney Channel counterparts such as Miley Cyrus (although I do enjoy some of her songs), her real-life BFF Selena Gomez, and Ashley Tisdale. Let it also be known that in terms of vocal talent, Lovato appears to be the best among the four.On her second effort, 2009's "Here We Go Again", she continues to expand on her ever-growing maturity in terms of sound and production. The songwriting is simple but effective, which gives it that unique balance of being a record that your young daughter would sing along to, but you'll find yourself dancing along with. With remarkably catchy songs that highlight her apparent four-octave range (?), both of her albums appear to be a hybrid of Tween Pop sensitivity & Adult Contemporary maturity. Clocking in at just over 46 minutes over 14 tracks, the album's opener, the title track, is a rockin' cut that could've done without the final cymbal crash at the very end. "Solo", "U Got Nothin' On Me", "Everything You're Not", & "World Of Chances" are solid, thoroughly enjoyable tracks that are just comfortable to hear. "Catch Me" & "Gift Of A Friend" are outstanding slow ballads, but "Everytime You Lie" is the standout song here, a wonderful slice of R&B/Jazz-tinged pop that could be easily used in a party/club scene in a TV series like "Melrose Place", "90210", or the now-departed "The O.C.". As the primary star of [the Disney Channel Original Series] "Sonny With A Chance", it's only fitting the album closes with the show's theme song "So Far So Great". The sing-songy arrangement is a bit daunting, but this girl gives it a spirited "YEOOWWWW" at the end and redeems it nicely. But Lovato deserves a lot of credit for being able to hold this record together with a vocal range that seems to be beyond her 17 years of age (as of this writing). Yeah, she's no Whitney Houston or Mariah Carey or even Beyonce' and she's not trying to be. Truth be told? She's not SUPPOSED to be .... and she SHOULDN'T be!!! Take into account that both "Don't Forget" & "Here We Go Again" were released by a major label (Hollywood Records) NOT affliated with Disney. That speaks volumes about the impression they had about Lovato's talent and the sound she managed to create a mere two records in. Solid and consistent, "Here We Go Again" is just an infectious, catchy, and just plain comfortable record. Her vocal talent & sound will mature with age and that should be expected. When that does happen, it's possible she'll give the aforementioned ladies a run for their money. Key Tracks: "Everytime You Lie", "Here We Go Again", "Gift Of A Friend", "Falling Over Me", "Catch Me". Honorable Mention: "So Far So Great" (only for Demi's "YEOOWWWW!" at the end). |
