Glorious Blu-ray Transfer,
By Bob Drake "BobDrake" (Bronx, NY United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Hero (2004) [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray)
This is a single-disc presentation of one of my favorite films, with a glorious transfer of a beautiful film. In a scene where the amber leaves of trees turn to red, the color red is of the hue I remember from the theatre, not the reddish orange of the DVD. There are complaints that the highest quality audio has been reserved for the dubbed English soundtrack. The benefit of this is that you can pay attention to the cinematography rather than concentrating on reading the subtitles, as the original film would be enjoyed by the original Chinese audience. (The dubbing is really quite good. Jet Li can speak English.) The Chinese soundtrack is present which may be combined with English (or other) subtitles for the dedicated. I can find no fault with this presentation.

Excellent BluRay of Hero,

This release appears to be somewhat different the non-Alliance release as it does not seem to have the Digital Copy.Quality is just outstanding, as is the ENGLISH dubbed Soundtrack. They include Spanish, (the original) Mandarin, and French in Dolby 5.1. I always liked the original Mandarin, but I have to admit, the English sounds terrific -- true there is a few poor translations that sound almost funny. On a side note -- "Our Land" -- was originally translated more correctly as "All Under Heaven" There have been people who say the quality if lacking, but I found it just outstanding. The images just jump out at you, and the colour and clarity is just terrific -- a noticeable improvement from the very good DVD version previously released. They add a very nice shorter documentary on the special effects and fight scenes which I found very good. In it, Zhang Ziyi speaks her English, which she was learning while making this film. I highly recommend this BluRay release.

A quick review on teh Blu-Ray, not the movie:The True-HD audio is only in English. The Chinese audio track is still pretty good, but it'd be ncie if they gave it the treatment that the english dub audio got. If you're a fan of this movie, go find teh non-US release.
