Product Description

From Amazon.com

Modern recording careers are notoriously fragile things. Just when Ben Lee's acclaimed 1999 collection Breathing Tornados seemed ready to give his already precocious career (begun as the 14-year-old wunderkind frontman for Australia's Noise Addict) some serious traction, his label folded. Undeterred, Lee took the life's lessons learned, built his previous album's experimental production touches into something more rhythmically foundational (courtesy of producer Dan the Automator) and reemerged with the dozen solid tracks here. There's an upbeat, guitar-centered pop consciousness to the cautionary "Running with Scissors," but it's a deceptive one that Lee's variously spins into funk-groove ("Dirty Mind") and electro-baroque ("On and On," "Music 4 the Young and Foolish") while following a restless m! use. But it's also an album whose wafting melodic sense can just as easily drift into the dreamy, more typically folkie ruminations like "Shine" and "In the Morning." Lee's vocals have matured into a clear, unaffected tenor that often soars above the restless, edgy beats here; a wizened voice of experience that belies its not-so-tender 24 years. --Jerry McCulley

1.0 out of 5 stars Not very good, July 15 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Hey You Yes You (Audio CD)
I liked all of his past albums but this one isn't good. None of the songs are very clever, it's nothing captivating. In fact, I'd get more pleasure listening to just about ANYTHING but this. Spend your money elsewhere.

5.0 out of 5 stars Quality Pop Music, Jan 6 2004
By
This review is from: Hey You Yes You (Audio CD)
This is a great cd, not as good as some Noise Addict stuff, but for me, the two are on completely different levels. Hey You, Yes You is a pop album, plain and simple, with hints of rock and folk and indie. All the songs are great, but my favorites are Something Borrowed, Chills, and Room to Bleed...Something Borrowed Something Blue is a classic rockish pop song, Chills is a fantastic slow Holcombe Waller-esque ballad, and Room to Bleed is just a great song. I would reccomend this album to most anybody, even indie/punk jerk-off hipsters like myself... just take it for what it is. Quality, catchy music.

1.0 out of 5 stars Big Nose, Hairy Tooth Guy, Dec 31 2003
This review is from: Hey You Yes You (Audio CD)
Ben Lee is funny, you gotta give him that. Running With Scissors is a hilarious song, I laughed so hard when I first heard it. The sad thing is though, I don't think he's trying to be funny. So basically, he sux. The Big Nose Hairy Tooth Guy (inside joke, you wouldn't get it) is back and badder than ever. Literally. Hey is he still dating Claire Danes?
