KGI, Book Three,
By
This review is from: Hidden Away (Mass Market Paperback)
The Kelly Group International (KGI) is a super-elite, top secret, family-run business. They handle jobs the U.S. government cannot. Marcus Lattimer is a personal enemy of KGI, so when the CIA asks for help, Garrett Kelly jumps at the chance to nail the guy. Allen Cross had been killed in his office and it is believed that Lattimer personally assassinated the businessman instead of sending one of his men to do the job. However, the monitors had conveniently been down and the security guard away from his post. To nab Lattimer, Garrett would need to keep tabs on Lattimer's half sister, Sarah Daniels, who witnessed the murder. Until very recently, no one knew that Lattimer had any living family members. He is extremely protective of Sarah, making sure that she knows nothing about his shady activities and that his life never touches her in any way. After seeing Marcus kill her former boss, Sarah goes into hiding. She is not hiding because she is afraid of her half brother. She is in hiding to protect him. Stanley had seen her in the building following Allen's death. The last thing Sarah wants is for Stanley to learn that Marcus is the one who killed his brother - even if he did deserve it. The sister of the CIA's most wanted man is on the Isle de Bijoux. She is holed up in a cottage on a remote section of the beach. Though many would consider the all expenses paid trip to Florida to be sort of a vacation, Garrett sees Sarah simply as bait to get Lattimer. This is a cake job. Stick to Sarah and nail Lattimer when the time comes. But Garrett never counts on falling for Sarah. When he glimpses Sarah's dark past, he wants nothing more than to keep her safe - even after she disappears on him. Garrett may not know why Sarah is running, but it is clear that she is running for her life. Why is it always the cake jobs that go horribly wrong? ***** FIVE STARS! Banks knows what her readers crave in their stories. Action, suspense, and romantic drama collides in this, the third Kelly brother's tale. Even though this story is not "non-stop" as the previous two KGI novels, I still feel it deserves the full five stars. There is a lot more drama and, since Sarah has recently been through a horrible experience, the romance builds slower. The only glaring typo I noticed is toward the beginning (page seventeen) when, while discussing Marcus's relation to Sarah, Resnick's name is used instead of Lattimer's. Otherwise there is nothing to distract the reader from spending a cozy afternoon or evening with the Kelly family. Anyone who believes they can read a book by Maya Banks without sitting on the edge of their seat, at least once, is delusional. ***** Reviewed by Detra Fitch of Huntress Reviews.

Different from the first two, but still 5 starts for me!,

I found this to be quite different from the first two KGI novels, but loved it nonetheless.I liked the fact that the Garrett and Sarah don't just jump straight into bed. There is fantastic character development and it is nice to get to know characters and see their relationship and attraction form a little more slowly, instead of it being rushed. I liked seeing Garret's softer side and seeing Sarah come out of her shell. And if anyone thinks that said that Sarah is not fierce enough...how much courage would that have taken someone with her history to expose herself and put herself on the line like that. If that is not fierce, then I don't know what is! I also liked seeing how all the other characters are doing. Too often, in a series, once a book is written, the author rarely mentions them again. It is great to see how they are, especially Ethan and Rachel. My only criticism was that the conflict was resolved too easily/quickly, however I love a HEA and as long as that happens...I'm happy! 13 of 13 people found the following review helpful

While different and more focused on the romantic relationship between Garrett and Sarah rather than equal parts action/romance/other Kelly family members as the first 2 bks were, this was still a great read. I was sorry I read it so quickly makes the wait for the next book soooo long. I love the Kelly family. Maya Banks writes an enjoyable story with very down to earth likeable characters. The dialog is often times funny - the snark the brothers dish out to each other is a hoot. Seems like we're given a hint at where the next book could go....Rio? PJ and Cole? Nathan or Joe rather than Donovan being next? Rusty seems less of a brat in this story and the brothers become more accepting and rally around her over a particular incident.Highly recommend this series. Anxiously awaiting the next installment. 17 of 19 people found the following review helpful

I have to admit I love this series from the first book. One of my favorite things that Maya Banks does is not play lip service to her supporting characters. The family as a whole is apart of the book I think that is my favorite part. I love that the birth of little Charlotte took center stage for a moment, or that we see Rachel still recovering, and Rusty finding her place. Maya continues to show in these books that love does not happen in a vacuum their family is still a huge and important part of each of the characters lives.I do agree that this book was a little different than the first two, the action and the suspense did take a back seat to romance between Garrett and Sofie. I think this made the book a little slow, they dealt with emotional issues instead of the bad guys most of the time. And unfortunately I wasn't really feeling Sofie, she wasn't bad just not whom I would pair with someone like Garrett who is like a mother hen. I would like her to be more self reliant not another person for him to have to take care of. But that is really nit picky. Bottom line: great read! Great series! I am so looking forward to the next one. And the question where is Nathan and is he ok? I can't wait |
