My favorite Il Sung Na book so far! Vibrant and fun illustrations. A good time for all. May 11 2015

Many animals gather together at the edge of the rain forest to play. Chameleon suggests they play hide and seek. The animals have a hard time deciding where to hide except for the chameleon. Elephant counts to ten while everyone hides. Then he seeks them out. But where is that chameleon?

The illustrations are created with a combination of painted texture and digital layering. They are gorgeous and vibrant! I love Na's unique style.

This book by Na had so much to offer for young children. First, the elephant counts to ten and you see the numbers progress on each page. Then there are a variety of animals to learn about. The pictures are not complicated for the young ones. And it is fun trying to see where the animals are since they blend into the background--especially the chameleon. And thank you to one reviewer who pointed out that Chameleon shows up on every two page spread. I went back for a second reading to find him. This will be a fun activity for the little ones. This story is simple, but the youngest ones will highly enjoy it. Recommended for ages 2-5.

My 2 year old and I borrowed this book from the library and she fell in love with it. She could not put it down. She loved looking for the little chameleon on every page. After reading this book multiple times, she started to really get the hang of counting to ten. A few months later, she received it as a gift and after opening it, she said, "Hide and Seek!" A book that a two year remembers the title to months later is a keeper! Very cute and highly recommend.

I love Il Sung Na illustrations and bought 3-4 of his books, my my lilttle one does not appreciate art at her 2 y.o., she likes bright spots and shapes. So, this book might be more interesting for older kids. But I love it, love it!!!

Misuse of Setting April 6 2013
By Stacy Loyd - Published on
Format: Hardcover
Sang Na creates a visually intersting book, but my four-year old niece and I were frustrated that the animals weren't rainforest animals. When a picturebook begins "At the edge of a vast rainforest . . . " it would have been more rewarding to have the animal characters within the book be animals that live in the rainforest.
