Horrific!, May 1 2005

Although I didn't get a chance to see the movie (I heard it sucked, so maybe that's a good thing) as a horror film score collector I decided to risk this soundtrack. John Ottman is usually a sign of quality first hand, he did an excellent job with Gothika, but I think an even better job with Hide and Seek.Part of what makes this score so good is that it's actually quite mellow, the music is relaxingly scary, and provides fantastic atmosphere. Haunting little girl vocals provide an excellent touch that you won't see in many other soundtracks. The "Main Theme" and two versions of "Emily's Theme" one mellow, the other slightly upbeat are the spotlight tracks, but every one can give you chills, while still providing excellent Halloween or fall ambience.
Whether you hated the movie or not, it's impossible not to adore this soundtrack. I plan on playing it all October long, as a way to get into the mood of the season.

Personally, I loved the movie Hide and Seek. Both Dakota Fanning and Robert DeNiro are excellent actors and really deliver a smashing performance. Now, you all know the rule for really good movies: if there's a kickass movie, there's bound to be a kickass soundtrack. Now, there are exceptions to the rule (Titanic... eeww...) but thankfully, the Hide and Seek instrumental soundtrack isn't one of them. Composed beautifully by famed composer John Ottman, this collection of instrumental bits has an added bonus: the thrill of hearing Dakota Fanning singing to some of the songs... and her voice is one to be reckoned with. So why only four stars? Cause it isn't really the greatest instrumental soundtrack in the world (my pick for that: the Appleseed instrumental soundtrack [it's an anime movie,if you've never heard of Appleseed])- but then again, what is? All around, it's an awesome CD and completely fulfills what the movie presented to us on the big screen. Don't be surprised if you find yourself looking around warily as you listen to the final notes of Playing with Charlie.. then you'll be just like me.

Haunting and Stunning music!, April 20 2011

I found the music to be fitting for the entire movie. It had a childish and playful touch to it but it was also spooky. Emily's Theme at the credits was what hooked me, the instruments were stunning as well as the voice haunting. The movie itself was alright, and great choice in actors.
